Democrat Shadow Representative Hospitalized

Oye Owolewa, the shadow representative of the House of Representatives from the District of Columbia, was hospitalized after a severe car accident.

“DC’s representative Oye Owolewa was involved in a major vehicular collision resulting in his loss of consciousness. The incident occurred on 2600 Alabama Ave SE at approximately 5:30 pm. Rep Oye has since been transported to United Medical Center where he is currently in stable condition. We appreciate all well wishes and seek privacy at this time,” a statement from Owolewa’s office read.

Owolewa was elected as a D.C. shadow representative in 2020.

“As a shadow congressperson, Owolewa is tasked with lobbying for D.C. statehood; the unpaid position was authorized by D.C. voters in 1982, but was never approved by Congress,” Wikipedia writes.

“Although mistakenly described in Nigerian media as the first Nigerian American to be elected to the U.S. Congress, Owolewa is not a member of Congress,” it added.
