Okay, let me spill the beans right up front. Two things:
- The viral video purported to show the FEMA Director getting beaten is false.
- The reports of a FEMA Official being attacked persist, separate from the video.
So let’s get to the bottom of this, if we can.
🔺#BreakingNews Citizens reportedly attacked the FEMA director in NC. This is the person leading North Carolina’s efforts to assist victims of Hurricane Helene. 🔥😱

Breaking: Reports that a FEMA director who was acting arrogant and denying aid to #NorthCarolina flood victims was BEATEN by local residents
The incident occurred 20 miles south of #Asheville
— Retro Coast (@RetroCoast) October 4, 2024
The above post is one of the first instances I have been able to track back to that claimed this attack happened. I believe it is one of the earliest reports of an incident involving a FEMA Official of some kind being attacked because he or she was “denying aid to flood victims”. I want to point out that the viral video was not part of this earlier report, and may have potentially been added to the story later — since there seems to be no video proof.
Here is the video in question which has gone viral, purportedly depicting a FEMA official getting attacked (I’ll post the full-screen vid below for easier viewing):

That video, according to the Daily Mail, is footage of the moment a nightclub bouncer threw a woman to the ground outside of a San Antonio club:
Jaw-dropping video footage has captured the moment a nightclub bouncer bodyslams a woman to the ground during a chaotic brawl in San Antonio.
Several scantily-clad girls are seen pulling hair and wrestling each other when suddenly a bouncer picks one of them up and drops her violently to the ground.
Dozens of dollar bills fly out of the girl’s purse as she lays stunned on the floor before starting to wriggle again.
While that event is definitely “jaw-dropping”, as the report says, it is unrelated to the alleged incident involving an attack on a FEMA worker in North Carolina that is currently circulating.
One video that is legit, and shows the resilience of the Appalachian people, is this one that I came across while searching for facts, and I simply have to share it:

I’d say that proves one thing for sure — if the Federal Government would simply get out of the way… at this point, WE THE PEOPLE, and particularly the Appalachian people, would simply figure this out without the Feds!
I did find this report, which included a link to a story that mentions the incident in question.
FEMA Director 'Beaten' by Furious Locals Alleging Gov't Deliberately Sabotaged Hurricane Helene Relief – The People's Voice https://t.co/DeKhD9SQ17
— Mike Bravo (@MikeBravoNC) October 4, 2024
According to the story put out by The People’s Voice TV, the situation on the ground is very much devolving into exactly the sort of scenario where a FEMA worker might get “beaten”. Having planned and carried out food and emergency supply distribution in disaster scenarios overseas, I can promise you — one place you don’t want to be is in between desperate people and the goods they need to stay alive, and keep their families alive. Here’s the report from The People’s Voice TV:
In the wake of Hurricane Helene, the federal government’s slow and inadequate response has left many residents feeling abandoned, forcing them to rely on grassroots efforts to deliver life-saving assistance.
Desperate for aid and running out of patience, local residents have taken matters into their own hands as FEMA, facing financial strain, struggles to coordinate relief.
While FEMA’s failures grow more apparent, volunteer pilots, ranchers, and everyday citizens have stepped in to rescue stranded families, deliver critical supplies, and rebuild their communities.
The reported assault on the FEMA director symbolizes the frustration felt by many in these hard-hit communities. They feel betrayed, not only by a slow-moving federal response but by an arrogant display of neglect from the very agencies meant to protect them. (Emphasis added.)
While that doesn’t give clear evidence that the attack actually happened, that is just another instance of reporting on an event that is unlikely NOT to happen as the frustration and anger towards FEMA’s disastrous response continues.
I was also able to find mention of the alleged incident in a story from the Times Now, which included the following information:
A video is circulating on social media with users claiming that one of the directors of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) allegedly beaten up people in Ashville, North Carolina. While the video was shared several times on social media, there was no official record of the incident. Times Now cannot independently verify the authenticity of the video.
ADVERTISEMENTFEMA said in the post that the administrator of FEMA is on the ground in North Carolina, directly overseeing the Hurricane relief work.
Deanne Criswell, FEMA administrator, has been coordinating response efforts with local leaders in North Carolina, the worst affected state of the lot.
Again, no clear indication whether or not the incident occurred or not, but at the very least the mere fact that I am able to find reporting on the incident shows just how relevant the issue is becoming. You don’t have to scroll long through social media to come across the anger boiling over towards the Federal Government at the moment.

Just got off the phone a Pastor in the midst of the flooding in TN/NC. He is in one of the most devastated locations. He verified a few things about the situation:
– Almost all help is being done by private citizens, mainly churches.
– Private helicopters are flying in the vast majority of the supplies.
– Local Sheriffs are telling people to feel free to defend their property from looters by whatever means they have.
– WROL (Without Rule of Law) is happening in some areas, which means looting, robbing, and etc.
– FEMA’s involvement has seriously complicated the rescue efforts.
– Local Sheriffs have threatened to arrest FEMA workers if they hinder rescue and aid work.
– The response to this tragedy has been massive and overwhelming. All from private individuals and local Churches.Pray for these people!
As I said, you don’t have to look far to find the anger towards the ineptitude, and what is more and more being considered intentional hinderance, of the Biden-Harris administration for their mishandling of every aspect of this disaster.
I am hoping that more information will make its way out of the disaster area soon, and when it does we’ll be sure to bring you the final verdict on whether or not the alleged attack on a FEMA Official is accurate or not — but with the situation changing rapidly, I didn’t want to wait to bring you the most current information. I have little doubt that if this story isn’t true, yet… it will be soon, if things continue heading in the direction they are currently.
Let’s pray, for all those involved, that things get better soon — and all those people needing help can get the very best of what American can do, rather than the ineptitude that has so far marked FEMA’s involvement.
