VILE: Hillary Clinton Doubles Down On Her “Basket of Deplorables” Comment

One of the most infamous lines uttered during the 2016 presidential campaign came when Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton described millions of Americans as part of a “basket of deplorables.”

The attack on her rival’s supporters almost instantly backfired, with critics across the political aisle insisting that she went too far.

Nearly a decade later, Clinton has not only refused to apologize or disavow her divisive language, she now thinks she didn’t go far enough.

As Breitbart reported:

Clinton reflected on the infamous and divisive comment she made during a fundraiser in 2016 in a Washington Post op-ed published on Wednesday, adapted from her new book Something Lost, Something Gained: Reflections on Life, Love, and Liberty. In the article, the former secretary of state recalled a meeting she had with a former white supremacist who now works to deprogram people leaving hate groups as an entry to discuss her “deplorables” comment, and said the term is “too kind a word” for some of Trump’s most fervent followers.

“In 2016, I famously described half of Trump’s supporters as ‘the basket of deplorables.’ I was talking about the people who are drawn to his racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, Islamophobia — you name it. The people for whom his bigotry is a feature, not a bug,” Clinton wrote.

“It was an unfortunate choice of words and bad politics, but it also got at an important truth. Just look at everything that has happened in the years since, from Charlottesville to Jan. 6. The masks have come off, and if anything, ‘deplorable’ is too kind a word for the hate and violent extremism we’ve seen from some Trump supporters,” she continued:

Clinton also addressed part of her 2016 comment in which she said some Trump supporters are “irredeemable” and “not part of America,” writing that “part of me would still say this is objectively true.” She added that “empathy for people you agree with is easy. Empathy for someone you deeply, passionately disagree with is hard but necessary,” and that “as a Christian, I aspire to this kind of radical empathy but often fall short.”

Of course, Clinton has issued similar denunciations of her political rivals in various forums since she lost the 2016 election.

By the same token, Clinton has been doing her best to prop up Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, including with her recent claim that Harris doesn’t need to actually tell voters what she would do if elected.

As Fox News reported:

Hillary Clinton forcefully argued that Vice President Kamala Harris didn’t need to clarify her policy positions in interviews and said that the 2024 Democratic candidate was facing a “double standard” from voters and the media.

“She does not have to do it, Kara. I’m going to just cut to the chase,” Clinton told journalist and podcast host Kara Swisher on the “On with Kara Swisher” podcast this week.

“In fact, she’s put out policies on her campaign website. Anybody who’s truly interested can go and read about them. She referenced policies. She actually doesn’t just have policies and concepts. She has plans about what to do,” Clinton said, referring to a policy page Harris added to her campaign website earlier this month.

“I think it’s, um, you know, it’s a double standard, and it’s a double standard that is partly because they are still getting to know her. But also because they’re still grappling with the idea like, ‘Oh, am I really going to vote for a woman to be president and commander in chief?’” she continued.
