In an unusual move on Wednesday, House Speaker Mike Johnson bent the rules to push through a three-month stopgap bill.
This was done to avoid a government shutdown, passing with a 341-82 vote.
Johnson, lacking the necessary support from his own party, suspended the rules.
The rule is that a vote requires a two-thirds majority.
For some reason he was leaning on Democrats to get it passed.
The bill includes $231 million for the Secret Service to protect the 2024 presidential campaigns and other high-profile events but notably excludes the SAVE Act, which would require proof of citizenship to vote.
The bill now heads to the Senate, and then to Biden’s desk, with the September 30 deadline looming.
If this was such a great bill, why were the Republicans against it and why were Democrats for it?
I guess bending the rules is okay as long as money is on the line, right?

The Gateway Pundit reports:
The House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a three-month stopgap bill to avert a government shutdown in 341-82 vote.
The bill included $231 million for the Secret Service “to carry out protective operations including the 2024 Presidential Campaign and National Special Security Events.”
The measure did not include the SAVE Act which requires proof of citizenship to register to vote.
House Speaker Mike Johnson suspended the rules which requires two-thirds support because he didn’t have the backing from Republicans.
The stopgap bill had to be passed with Democrat support.
The measure will head to the Senate and ultimately to Joe Biden’s desk on Wednesday evening ahead of the September 30 deadline.

As Wendy Patterson pointed out, it is interesting that there is no Democratic challenger for his seat.
@SpeakerJohnson has a history of Flip-Flopping on his stated goals and promises. Here are a few of the more famous flip-flops:#1: FISA Warrant punchbowl.news/article/house/… #2: Border bill funding newsweek.com/mike-johnsons-…#3: No more Omnibus CRs nbcnews.com/politics/congr…His record is not good, leading many to question if the Deep State blackmailed him or if they bought him off. He is also responsible for allowing a new Land-Grab law to pass bundled with the last last Omnibus that the house approved. The law mirrors the UN 30 by 30 agenda and allows the government and private donors like Bill Gates to assign a service that your land provides and then restrict you from using it or complete confiscation of your land. They want to take 440 million acres of land, and the US is estimated to have 900 million acres of farmland, which means they can cut the food supply in half.ksn.com/news/agricultuBenedict Johnson used Democrats to pass the 2024 Omnibus because 112 Republicans voted No.“The chamber passed the 1,012-page bill by a vote of 286-134, with 101 Republicans and all but 22 Democrats backing the bill. It would provide appropriations for agencies covered under the Defense, Financial Services, Homeland Security, Labor-HHS-Education, Legislative Branch, and State-Foreign Operations bills, or about 70 percent of annual discretionary funding. That tally is lower than the 339-85 vote to pass the first six-bill package earlier this month, though that bill included less controversial spending measures. This time, Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., wasn’t able to get a majority of his GOP conference on board for the second package, with 112 Republicans opposing it.”
Speaker Benedict Johnson needs to be voted out of office. @SpeakerJohnson Flip-Flopped immediately after his first classified briefing after becoming Speaker.
Did they blackmail him with information from Epstein or Sean Diddy Combs, or something similar?
It’s possible, but… pic.twitter.com/lVPoBOi1w2
