Elon Musk Gives His Largest-Known Political Donation, Report Says

According to reports, Elon Musk gave his largest-known political donation ever to aid House Republicans in their battle to maintain the majority.

“The National Republican Congressional Committee reported receiving $289,100 from Musk in August, according to its report filed with the Federal Election Commission Friday,” POLITICO reports.

The donation came through a joint fundraising committee linked to Rep. Ken Calvert (R-CA), with most of it earmarked for the NRCC’s convention and headquarters accounts.

Musk — the richest person in the world, with an estimated net worth of over $250 billion — has given to both Democrats and Republicans in the past, but not in such significant amounts.

Musk has amped up his political involvement in recent months. He has forged a relationship with former President Donald Trump, whom he is assisting by bankrolling America PAC, a pro-Trump outside group. The organization, which has undergone a leadership shuffle in recent months, is expected to play a major role in helping to turn out voters for the former president and recently began spending in competitive House races across the country as well.

It is likely that Musk has given more to America PAC than the NRCC. The super PAC, which can accept unlimited amounts from individual donors, is due to disclose its financial activity for the third quarter of this year on Oct. 15, which will give a clearer picture of how much Musk has given to the group.

Amplifying his political activities, Musk has also brought on Chris Young, a veteran Republican strategist, according to The New York Times.

Despite these donations from Musk, the NRCC’s total fundraising in August amounted to $9.7 million, significantly trailing the $22.2 million raised by its Democratic counterpart, according to Politico.

In an interview with Lex Fridman, Elon Musk explained why he endorsed Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.

“What’s your philosophy behind that endorsement? What do you hope Donald Trump does for the future of this country and for the future of humanity?” Fridman asked.

“I thought Trump displayed courage under fire, objectively. He just got shot. He’s got blood streaming down his face, and he’s fist pumping, saying ‘fight.’ That’s impressive. You can’t feign bravery in a situation like that,” Musk said.

“I think you want someone who is strong and courageous to represent the country,” he continued.

“But on balance, and certainly at the time, it was a choice of Biden. Poor guy has trouble climbing a flight of stairs, and the other one is fist pumping after getting shot. This is no comparison. I mean who do you want dealing with some of the toughest people and other world leaders who are pretty tough themselves?” Musk explained.

“I think we want a secure border. We don’t have a secure border,” he noted.

“We want safe and clean cities,” he added.

“I think we want to reduce the amount of spending we’re, at least, slow down the spending because we’re currently spending at a rate that is bankrupting the country,” he continued.

“I think we’ve got to reduce the size of government, we’ve got to reduce the spending, and we’ve got to live within our means,” he said.
