(WATCH!) Gavin Newsom Fulfills Vow, Outlaws “Deepfakes”, INSTANTLY BACKFIRES

“But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.” (James 5:12, ESV)

That’s what came to mind when I saw what Gavin Newsom just did, and I have been enjoying the “condemnation” he immediately incurred as a result.  (I am still laughing SO hard…)  So, here’s the story.

According to Politico’s reporting, Newsom just followed through on a “vow” (not really a “vow”… but, whatever), which he made back on July 28th of this year:

Now, to be fair, that doesn’t really qualify as a “vow” in my mind.  And it certainly isn’t the kind of “vow / swear” that James was writing about in our opening Bible verse.  Gavin Newsom actually got that part right!  He said he would… and he did.  But I can promise you this — the condemnation that he received for following through has been swift, and hilarious; of Biblical proportions!

Last night, Governor Newsom posted this, signaling that he had followed through with this “vow”:

And before we go straight to the hilarious condemnation he has received in response, here’s Politico with a glance at the story in play:

California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed the country’s toughest law banning digitally altered political “deepfakes” on Tuesday, following through on a vow to act after rebuking Elon Musk for sharing a doctored video of Vice President Kamala Harris.

The new California law — which will take effect before the November election — channels rising alarm about artificial intelligence’s capacity to disrupt elections by sowing misinformation, with voters increasingly confronted with deepfake images and audio impersonating candidates. Musk, who owns X, stoked that debate when he shared the AI-altered video of Harris in July, drawing Newsom’s public promise to prohibit similar practices.

“I could care less if it was Harris or Trump,” Newsom told Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff during a conversation on Tuesday. “It was just wrong on every level.”

Newsom also signed a companion bill on Tuesday that targets deepfakes by compelling platforms to pull down such content when users flag them, although that bill will not take effect until next year. He signed a third measure requiring disclaimers on political ads that use AI.

And so that there is no misunderstanding (we do not believe in misinformation around here!), let me quote an excerpt from an Associated Press news story so we’re all on the same page:

California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed three bills Tuesday to crack down on the use of artificial intelligence to create false images or videos in political ads ahead of the 2024 election.

A new law, set to take effect immediately, makes it illegal to create and publish deepfakes related to elections 120 days before Election Day and 60 days thereafter. It also allows courts to stop distribution of the materials and impose civil penalties.

Okay — now that we all understand that Gavin Newsom just made it instantly illegal to share PARODY VIDEOS online… now I can show you the funny part, at Gavin Newsom’s expense.  I probably don’t have to tell you what happened next.  You probably guessed it already.  But here it is anyway:

Now, if you think that’s hilarious (because it IS), you are in for a grand treat.  Because people didn’t just start sharing and re-sharing that same parody video… they started making and sharing NEW ones, and even a few OLDER ones.  And so I present to you how one man’s attempt to control other people… backfired gloriously.

That one was really good.  But so is this one:

Are they filming another “Hunger Games” movie here?  Or are they just in Gavin Newsom’s California?  I am having a hard time telling the difference.

This… THIS is not a video, or a meme, or a meme of a meme of a meme — as the saying goes.  This is just the gosh honest truth.  Gotta love Collin Rugg’s response:

Another case of “rules for thee but not for me”?  Of course, the Harris-Walz campaign doesn’t really do “deepfakes” (except for doctoring their own campaign events using AI-generated LARGE crowds, where there’s hardly anyone there); they just… lie, outright.

Oh — I found this one, too.

And… now I’m just having too much fun.

I can go on?

But, alas, there is more news to cover.  Please feel free to find more Gavin Newsom meme’s, deepfakes, and overall embarrassing things to share openly and freely with your fellow Americans — and enjoy your First Amendment rights at the expense of a tyrant absolutely every chance you get.
