The minutes are ticking down to the first EVER meeting between President Trump and Kamala Harris in tonight’s debate. And what would a good debate be without the INFAMOUS democratic strategist and political commentator, James Carville.
Look… I know, I know. He’s crass. He probably disagrees with our readers on 99% of everything that comes out of his mouth at any given time — and maybe twice that on Sundays. But I couldn’t help it. Agree or disagree with him, he’s helped lead several high profile campaigns to victory. And dang it if he isn’t entertaining to watch! Ha!
So what did he say this time? (I know, it’s in the story title! But trust me – it’s even better than what I gave away. Let’s turn straight to social media to start off:
'WELL PREPARED': Democratic Strategist James Carville is extremely optimistic for Vice President Harris heading into tonight's ABC News Presidential Debate. Why he thinks former President Trump is "walking into a giant trap." https://t.co/PKyX6Us9g8 pic.twitter.com/UOJKEhTjLB

Like I said, it gets better. Let’s go straight to a clip from the NBC interview in question:
Not only does James Carville say out loud for all the political world to hear that he thinks President Trump is walking into a trap laid by Kamala Harris — according to the Fox News article, he also says THIS:
Democratic strategist James Carville said Monday that Vice President Kamala Harris would win the debate against former President Trump, and said that the former president “made a big mistake.”
ADVERTISEMENT“I think she’s well-prepared,” Carville said. “She’s got really top people preparing her. She’s going to have low expectations because President Biden did so horrible in June. It wasn’t that Trump did great, it was that President Biden didn’t do very well at all. And I have to say this, I could be eating my words on Wednesday, but I think she’s going to do quite well. And I think he made a big mistake by accepting this debate.”
Carville argued, “I think Trump is walking into a giant trap.”
“She should let him talk over her,” he wrote. “Not just let him but goad him into spouting insane conspiracy theories about the previous election. She should use her sense of humor at key moments to get under his skin and show he’s not getting to her. And she should welcome the personal attacks as a badge of honor.”
“And each time, no matter how many times he does it, respond with this refrain: It’s the same old tired playbook, and I’m focused on a new way forward,” Carville continued.
Let me just sum up a few things from that wildly fantastical assessment, including a few pointers he has for Kamala as game time nears:
- Kamala Harris will win the debate. (Trust me, bruh…)
- Kamala Harris is well prepared for the debate. (Born ready!)
- Her low expectations are because… BIDEN. (Anyone have a Tylenol???)
- Trump didn’t do “well at all” in the debate against Biden. (hehe…)
- She should use her sense of humor. ( ……”Cackles”…..)
- She should WELCOME the personal attacks. (I mean, if ya can’t beat ’em…)
- Label Trump as old and tired. (She’s proven incapable of that for 3+ years.)
- Claim to be focused on a “new way forward”. (Maybe if she TOLD us about it?)
Have I missed anything? Personally, I feel like Carville is missing EVERYTHING. Is he the one that’s been giving her pointers all along, because this looks like what she’s BEEN doing! How’s that working out?
According to the Fox News article, he also gave her this piece of advice:
“Put out a broad list of ‘new way forward’ policies that detail why she is breaking from the sitting president on the given issues and what change would deliver to the American people,” Carville wrote. “And after that rally, do a news conference on it, so media organizations stop cranking their clamshells about a lack of access. Don’t run from your differences with the president. Embrace them, respectfully and honestly.”
There’s one glaring problem with that, James — the entire Kamala campaign playbook apparently HINGES on NOT exposing her true differences because the radical nature will simply turn off even more voters than she’s done already!
According to The Hill‘s reporting on Carville’s take on the debate, he at least remains open to the idea that he could be wrong:
“I could be eating my words on Wednesday, but I think she’s going to do quite well,” Carville said. “And I think he made a big mistake by accepting this debate.”
Carville said the Tuesday night debate will be “very critical” for the American public to get to know Harris and her policies, in a separate interview Monday on NewsNation’s “Dan Abrams Live.”
“I think it’s a lot about Vice President Harris,” Carville said, regarding the debate. “I think Trump is a totally known entity. I think tomorrow night is very critical.”
He reiterated his optimism about Harris’s performance, saying Trump should be ready, “because she’s coming after him.”
Look — I said he was entertaining, and he’s been involved in plenty of campaigns. I didn’t claim he always made sense. Honestly, I would love to see Kamala Harris come out swinging.
You know, that one boxer comes out wildly swinging with all their might, thinking they are going to simply overwhelm their opponent and then BAM — that one uppercut or cross comes back at the one foolish enough to walk within striking distance of the opponents fist?
Yeah, I would love to see that. Maybe Kamala has been watching Carville’s commentary all day, preparing to come out swinging? Wasn’t it just a week or so ago that President Trump promised to “expose” her for who she really is?
Get your popcorn ready, folks. It’s almost game time. One way or another… we’re about to see the first meeting of two polarizing American political personalities.
See you on the other side!
