Watch: Bill Maher Says Left’s Attacks On RFK Jr.’s Wife Are Worse Than The Mafia

It might not be surprising to learn that many leftists were upset over Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s decision to drop out of the race and endorse President Donald Trump.

Many of those critics, however, extended their attacks to his wife, actress Cheryl Hines, despite her acknowledgement that she doesn’t endorse all of her husband’s political views.

Nevertheless, a series of prominent leftists piled on Hines for not openly disparaging her own husband, and “Real Time” host Bill Maher took them to task during the latest episode of his HBO series.

According to the Daily Caller:

Maher tore into the left for treating Hines like an enemy for not denouncing her husband even though she made clear her disagreement with Kennedy.

“His wife, Cheryl Hines, who Larry David was quoted as describing as ‘the best person I’ve ever met, the one person in Hollywood who doesn’t have a single enemy.’ Well, now she does, because she didn’t throw her husband under the bus when her husband made a decision about something, which she’s made plain she disagrees with,” Maher said.

“You want to know why I have a bug up my ass about the left more than I used to? It’s shit like this. There’s an ugliness they never used to have. The liberals I grew up respecting — none of them are like this. Going after the wife. Even the mafia doesn’t do that.”

Maher said it’s ridiculous to expect Hines to sacrifice her marriage to make a political point that liberals on Twitter will agree with.

One of the most obvious examples was actor Bradley Whitford:

The replies to his post have been overwhelmingly critical of his attack on Hines and, to a lesser extent, Trump and Kennedy:

At least one other washed-up actor seemed to agree, though:

Kennedy himself made it crystal clear that his wife wasn’t on board with his decision to endorse Trump, as NewsNation reported:

“This is really difficult for Cheryl,” Kennedy said. “This is the opposite of what she would want to do. She went along with it because she loves me and she wanted to be supportive of me, but it was not something that she ever encouraged.

“I would say, her trepidation about this and her discomfort with this, were the dominant feelings.”

Kennedy suspended his campaign and endorsed the Republican nominee on Aug. 23 and as expected, faced criticism, along with his wife. However, Kennedy confirmed to TMZ that Hines is not a fan of Trump.
