While You Were Sleeping: DEADLY ‘Street Takeover’ and Street Racing Epidemic Surges

Do a Google search for ‘street takeover’ or ‘street racing’.

There’s just way too many stories regarding it to pick just one.

Every weekend, late at night,  hundreds of young adults gather all over this nation.

To do what?

To take over streets, mainly intersections, and do donuts and risk their lives. Yes, it’s that lame.

The nearby spectators must get a thrill of the car spinning by, because they seem to get as close to the cars as they can.

You can guess what happens next.

Yep, many have been hit and sent flying.

Sadly, many never wake on this side of eternity again.

Surely these people can find a better hobby.

Here’s some highlights over the last few days.

In Vegas, Sept 2:

One person is dead and another is in critical condition after two pickup trucks allegedly racing crashed into an SUV, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.

The crash was reported just after 1 a.m. Monday on Searles Avenue, near Eastern and Washington avenues, LVMPD said.

Officials say aRAM 2500 and GMC Sierra were traveling south on Eastern, approaching Searles at a high rate of speed, when the front of the RAM struck a Chevrolet Tahoe traveling west onSearles.

The RAM then overturned and struck a luminary support and Power utility pole.

Following the collision between the Chevrolet and RAM, the front of the GMC struck the rear of the Chevrolet. Authorities noted on Monday that the pickup trucks appeared to be racing when they crashed into an SUV.

Los Angeles, last night while you slept:

Boulder, CO Aug 31:

BOULDER, Colo. — Boulder neighbors are sounding the alarm after hundreds of drivers came together for illegal street racing Saturday night.

The Boulder Police Department said there were anywhere from 250 to 400 cars in a parking lot off 30th and Iris.

Boulder PD said the group was there for about an hour and a half. Officers cited a handful of drivers for traffic infractions but a “decent number of vehicles” fled from police, a spokesperson told Denver7 on Monday.

Neighbors told Denver7 street racing is a problem in that area that’s only getting worse.

Plymouth, Mass. Aug 31:

Police are investigating a suspected street racing car crash on Route 3 South in Plymouth that killed a woman on Friday night.

Thirty-year-old Anthony Bradley was allegedly speeding in his Jeep Grand Cherokee in the breakdown lane around 10:30 p.m. when he struck a Mini Cooper in the lane next to him, causing his car to flip. He then hit a Dodge Charger as his car rolled over to the left lane.

Bradley and his passenger, a woman in her late 20s, were seriously injured in the crash. The woman was thrown from the vehicle and later died from her injuries. Her identity has not been released. Bradley is currently recovering at a Boston hospital.

Tonight as I’m researching this, another one occurred:

A 22-year-old man was arrested for illegal street racing on Aug. 25, according to Atlanta police.

The arrest was part of the department’s crackdown on illegal street racing and street takeovers in the city.

According to police, Sgt. Epps, of the A.C.E. Unit, heard tires screeching and saw smoke rising near 1430 Hill Pl. NW. While waiting for additional units, Sgt. Epps spotted a red BMW M4 attempting to flee the area. Police said this vehicle had been previously identified on street cameras and social media as being active in street racing throughout Atlanta.

And ANOTHER one tonight:

After an exhaustive Labor Day weekend, Tampa Police said there were more than 1,100 traffic stops conducted, including a notable arrest.

was an instance where officers responded to an attempted street takeover event near the Tampa Convention Center at 2 a.m. on Sunday.

The aviation unit gave officers on the ground the vehicle’s updated location and direction of travel, leading to the capture and arrest of the driver— identified as 18-year-old Elian Michele.

The TPD saidMichele was arrested for unlawful racing on a highway while engaged in a coordinated street takeover, and two narcotics counts. Additionally, the BMW was impounded.

In total, officers:

  • conducted 1,183 traffic stops
  • issued 1,012 warnings
  • and 531 citations

PS> DON’T DO what this woman does.

She gets out of the car and tries to reason with a mob.

They hate her and see her as a symbol of what’s ‘oppressing’ them.

This was from February.

They decided to storm a police officer’s vehicle.

Let’s just say, it didn’t go well for the crowd. Brutal!

Ring of fire? Could be the ring of death.

And beginning this year, a crowd gets plowed.

I’m sure they’re still feeling the injuries from it seven months later:
