Elton John, singer of pop ballads spanning more decades than I have been alive, just revealed the horrific news — recent health issues that have left him partially blind in one eye. According to FoxNews, the famously extravagant performer is healing, but the process is slow.
Elton John is recovering from a recent health scare, which left him with “limited vision” in one of his eyes.
The “Tiny Dancer” singer posted a message to his Instagram followers on Tuesday, sharing that he contracted a “severe eye infection” over the summer and is facing a long road to recovery.
“Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye,” he shared on social media. “I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.”
“I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far,” he added, before signing off “with love and gratitude, Elton John.”
“Sir Elton” dropped the news on his Instagram account Tuesday morning by what I can only describe as a royal notice on stylized stationary (classic Elton John), in which he expressed his gratitude to the medical team that has been taking care of him.

For many Americans my age, Elton John reminds us of a time when princesses and popstars were friends, and the world at least didn’t “seem” quite as dangerous as it does today — a time when even an eighteen year old libertarian-leaning conservative constitutionalist with a Biblical worldview (like me) could enjoy the music of someone like, well… Elton John.
I still get goosebumps to the opening score of “The Lion King”. (The original, OBVIOUSLY. Not that newfangled version — but, anyway…)
A lot of us think of Elton John and our memories conjure something like this clip, sitting with Princess Diana at Gianni Versace’s 1997 funeral — not that many months before he would be performing at her funeral.

And no, things aren’t like they used to be. Like most things, politics haven’t done a very good job of containing the vitriol it often produces. Nevertheless — the response Elton John received to his Instagram post was immense, as befits a pop star that both predates and simultaneously transcends even the mere concept of modern pop-stardom. As reported in the Fox News article referenced earlier, the outpouring of support for the pop icon was extravagant in it’s own right:
Many famous faces took to the comments section to offer their support for the legendary musician. Food Network star Sandra Lee wrote, “Feel better soon always sending love your way you wonderful, wonderful man. Take care of you. You’ll be back in a flash.” Model Linda Evangelista commented, “sending you love and wishing you a speedy recovery” with heart emojis.
Pop star Chappell Roan wrote, “We love you,” adding an emoji of a heart with a bandage on it, and Carnie Wilson wrote, “Get well soon Sir Elton. Daddy and I were watching your concert together yesterday. He was loving Bennie And The Jets.”
Politics and worldview aside, I can only wish Elton John the best as he recoups from this recent health scare. And you can bet we’ll bring you any updates as they become available.
