NFL First-Round Draft Pick Shot In Robbery Attempt

Ricky Pearsall, a first-round draft pick for the San Francisco 49ers, was shot in an attempted robbery near San Francisco’s Union Square.

FOX40 reports:

The robbery reportedly happened as Pearsall, the team’s first-round draft pick this year, was headed to a signing on Geary and Market Street. Police said Pearsall struggled for the gun and both he and the suspect were shot.

It was initially believed that Pearsall was shot in the arm, but reports further clarified that he was shot in the chest. According to SFPD, he is in stable condition.

“49ers first-round pick Ricky Pearsall walking to the ambulance after being shot today during an attempted robbery in San Francisco,” ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter said.

“He’s good. Thank god!!!!” Deebo Samuel, Pearsall’s teammate, said.

“This afternoon, there was an attempted robbery in Union Square involving San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and he was shot. SFPD was on scene immediately and an arrest of the shooter was made. My thoughts are with Ricky and his family at this time. We will provide more updates, including on his condition, as I receive them,” San Francisco Mayor London Breed stated.

Per Fox News:

The San Francisco Fire Department told Fox News Digital two victims were discovered near Grant and Geary streets with possible gunshot wounds. The first 911 call came in at 3:38 p.m., and both victims were transported by paramedics to a hospital.

San Francisco Police Department added that “two male subjects suffering from injuries” were found at the scene. After receiving medical attention and being transported to a local hospital, they revealed their preliminary investigation findings.

“Officers learned one of the subjects attempted to rob the victim, San Francisco 49ers player Ricky Pearsall,” SFPD’s statement read. “During the attempted robbery, a physical altercation ensued, and both the suspect and victim were injured. The suspect is in custody and charges are pending at this time. All information is preliminary, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.”

Pearsall was the 31st overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft by the 49ers after a standout senior season at Florida, where he totaled 1,027 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games in 2023.

However, Pearsall missed a lot of the preseason due to a shoulder injury, which head coach Kyle Shanahan called a shoulder subluxation. Shanahan said his latest subluxation came on Aug. 6, but he was fighting through it during practice.
