The family of Thomas Crooks has lawyered up, allegedly because of intense FBI scrutiny.
This comes as Congressman Mike Waltz, himself a former Green Beret, is calling into question the “lone wolf” narrative and openly theorizing that Thomas Crooks might have acted with help from a foreign adversary.
From the Washington Times, more on the new Crooks’ family lawyers:
The Crooks family has hired Quinn Logue, a Pittsburgh-based law firm. Its website says the firm’s areas of practice include personal injury, wrongful death and legal malpractice.
A family member who asked not to be named told DailyMail.com that the FBI “still very much has questions” about how much the parents knew of their son’s plans.
The family member said the FBI questions how Crooks “slipped through the net.”
The fact that the Crooks family has hired a legal team is really no surprise.
Considering the enormity of their sons involvement in an almost-successful assassination attempt of a former President, the bigger surprise may be that it took so long to happen.
Still, the fact that the FBI apparently still does not have a full accounting for how much the alleged shooter’s parents knew prior to the attempted assassination more than 6 weeks later is concerning.
Is that lack of insight because the family is not cooperating?
Or is it because the answers they are giving suggest Thomas Crooks acted alone (atleast without help from family) in his attempt to kill President Trump, and yet further evidence seems to cast that as unlikely?
And if so, do those answers match what the evidence suggests?
Those are the questions rattling around in my head. But first we need to look at some potentially related news.
The concerns of Congressman Mike Waltz.
Here’s a quick clip of the Congressman shared by Fox News on X.com :
(THE SIZE OF THE VIDEO is strange – but it will play correctly…)

Keep in mind — Congressman Waltz is a former Army Green Beret with multiple combat tours under his belt as a Special Forces officer.
Considering his first-hand experience with the tactics routinely used by American adversaries on the battlefield, I can’t help but defer to his intuition and experience here.
As part of the 13-member Task Force within the House of Representatives currently investigating the assassination attempt, and the Secret Service’s handling of it, Waltz is also privy to a lot of evidence that may not be publicly available.
As he further explained during a recent interview with the Daily Mail, the more evidence that he sees, the more questions he has:
Republican Rep. Mike Waltz said the gunman’s motivation is still unknown and he is worried a foreign entity or other third-party could have been involved in the attack.
Waltz queried how federal law enforcement can confidently say Crooks was a lone wolf if they can’t answer other questions like why he had multiple foreign encrypted messaging accounts.
His comments came after it was revealed that Iran was also plotting an attempt on the former president’s life around the same time that Crooks carried out his plan.
“The more we get into it, the more questions I have,” Waltz said. “It’s really what’s coming out around it that is so disturbing. And for me, the thing that’s most disturbing is that we have ongoing plots from Iran to take out a former president, leading candidate, and that a Pakistani national was just arrested after making a down payment for hitmen, and it’s barely even being covered in the news.”
“I don’t understand, and I don’t have any answers yet to help me understand how the [Secret] Service and DHS came out so quickly and said – and I think the FBI as well, but I’ll have to check that – and said, he operated alone. How do you know that mere days into your investigation? You can’t tell us his motive, but you could tell us he operated alone? You can’t get into these encrypted overseas accounts, but you can tell us he acted alone? So, I don’t buy that yet.”

Think about this: a Congressman with access to classified information and evidence, having spent legitimate time on the battlefield as a Special Forces soldier, is calling into question not only the fact that the FBI, DHS, and Secret Service has made rash ASSUMPTIONS in claiming very early on in the investigative process that Thomas Crooks acted alone…
But he is also pointing out evidence that seems to argue exactly contrary to that assumption.
Evidence that seems to suggest (not just to you and me, but to a former Green Beret sitting on a Congressional investigative Task Force privy to far more information and evidence), that Thomas Crooks very possibly had some sort of outside help.
Check out this video with Congressman Waltz in which he highlights the technical proficiency required to build the IEDs (improvised explosive devices) and remote detonators found in Thomas Crook’s arsenal of weapons:

Don’t miss what Congressman Waltz points out early in that clip, speaking about the Iranian threat to President Trump: “We’ve never had an adversary openly talking about plotting and planning to kill a former President or active candidate of the United States with zero consequences…”
Not even a diplomatic reprimand.
Is that, as is obvious to you and I, because the so-called leadership of the United States is too busy chasing it’s own tail to have time to adeptly handle the business of international geopolitics?
Maybe. That may be a subject to explore further, at a later date. For now, back to Congressman Waltz’ warnings.
As he addressed in the clip above, the sophistication required to manufacture multiple IED’s with working remote detonators — that alone is a red flag, begging to be investigated further.
Is that possibly why the FBI still isn’t satisfied that Thomas Crooks didn’t have help from his family?
I wonder if the FBI investigators are staring this same evidence in the face, recognizing (just as Congressman Waltz has done) that it is very unlikely he built these devices without any help. Except, are the investigators between a rock and a proverbial “hard place”?
- His family maintains they did not help him…
- If they investigate too far down the path of Iranian involvement, does that not implicate the FBI, Secret Service, and DHS as a whole — for failing to thwart a foreign plot they have admitted prior knowledge of?
And yet, as Congressman Waltz points out further in the interview we referenced above from the Daily Mail, the Iranian plot to assassinate President Trump and the technical proficiency required to build the weapons that Thomas Crooks possessed… are very hard to dismiss. (Atleast, if you’re not the FBI, Secret Service, or DHS.)
Rep. Waltz says while federal agencies and congressional committees are scrutinizing the USSS over the attempted assassination, there are more concerning details emerging that make the attack even more ominous.
That includes the revelation of the Iranian plot to assassinate Trump around the same time as the Crooks attempt.
Crooks had encrypted messaging accounts on platforms based in Germany, Belgium, and New Zealand.
“I don’t know of many 19-year-old kids who could make multiple IEDs with a remote detonator on their own,’ Waltz told DailyMail.com. ‘Why didn’t that get picked up if he’s searching that online or buying literature on how to do that?”
Did you catch in the last video I shared, who on the world stage is the primary makers and distributors of IED’s? Iran.
Once again we are faced with the same question: Why are the FBI, Secret Service, and DHS investigators so unwilling to let 1 + 1 = 2?
Thomas Crooks was in possession of devices that he could have built from sourcing information on the internet: but if that happened, why did the digital alarm bells not go off?
You can’t search for that kind of information… and not set off alarms.
But, Thomas Crooks also has multiple encrypted communication accounts based overseas, as Congressman Waltz pointed out: was THAT how he sourced the blueprints for these devices without raising red flags by U.S. digital security nets?
Or did he “source” them, at all? Were they simply supplied to him?
If not, then how did he build these devices on his own, which a U.S. Green Beret seems to think is highly unlikely?
But if he DID source them from a foreign adversary of the United States, say… Iran, in an attempt to assassinate President Trump before he could bring a harder stance against their powerplays on the world stage…
And this is all just my assumption, but I can’t help but ask what seems very obvious to me:
Is that why the FBI, on one hand has no problem muddying the waters with talk of Iranian plots… but on the other hand is loath to officially pin the President Trump assassination attempt on an Iranian plot – because they had advanced notice of the plot, and it would in effect implicate THEM?
Is that why the Crooks’ family, after more than 6 weeks of FBI questioning, has finally lawyered up?
Has the Crooks family just realized the FBI is intent on blaming the OBVIOUS help that Thomas Crooks received… on them???
These are my questions. My suspicions. I can’t prove them. And they may very well be wrong.
But then again, I can come up with no other reason why after 6 weeks, the Crooks family suddenly feels the need to lawyer up — at the same time that an unnamed family member has spilled the beans that there is one primary thing the FBI has questions about:
…what did they know, and did they help him?
Maybe truth will win out, and we’ll get answers soon. Maybe one of the many Congressional investigations will hit pay dirt. Or maybe, we’ll have to wait until after November elections and January inaugurations.
One way or another, I expect the truth to come out — this time. Until then, check back for more as it becomes available!
