GOP Rep. Cotton Confronts ABC Host Over Claim Kamala Harris Has Moved ‘To The Middle’

Throughout her career in public office, Kamala Harris has demonstrated time and again that she is motivated by a far-left worldview.

Now that she is running to be the next president, however, those in her campaign are trying to reassure voters that she will not act on the many radical policies she has endorsed in the past.

The mainstream media seems more than willing to promote that narrative, as evidenced during a recent ABC News segment featuring host Jonathan Karl and U.S. Rep. Tom Cotton (R-OK).

As reported by the Daily Caller, Cotton pushed back against the claim that Harris has become more moderate.

“Again, you would have thought watching the Democratic convention last week that the Democrats are not in office, that they’re not in power, that they’re campaigning against an incumbent Republican. When in reality, she’s been part of the failures of the Biden-Harris Administration for four years, and she campaigned for president, in her own right, she did, in fact, promise things like decriminalizing illegal immigration —”

Karl then argued that it was “a position she’s clearly changed on and she said she has changed.” However, Cotton pushed back, noting that only aides have come forward to distance Harris from her campaign policies.

“No, no she has not. Jon, she has not said that. You pointed out to Senator Sanders repeatedly — things that her campaign has said. Anonymous aides speaking on background reporters have said, ‘Well, she no longer believes these things.’ Okay, maybe she has changed her position on health insurance and confiscating your gun. If she has changed her position, she owes it to the American people to come out and say in her own words when she changed and why she changed,” Cotton said.

“That’s one reason why she needs to address the American people and speak to these questions because the only basis they have to conclude what she will be like as president is what she’s done for four years in this administration and what she said in her own voice in the last campaign,” Cotton continued.  “Remember, these are not, like, college essays, Jon. This is what she said when she was campaigning for president as a 54-year-old woman. If she’s had such a radical change of heart in the last five years, she owes the American people answers.”

Social media users have also been weighing in on the perceived disingenuousness of Harris’ supposed move to the center.

Although her campaign has been short on policy details thus far, her economic plans have already fueled concerns, even among some mainstream media outlets.

According to the Daily Mail:

An op-ed published by the Washington Post wrote: ‘It’s hard to exaggerate how bad Kamala Harris’ price-gouging proposal is.’ The outlet added it gave rise to criticisms the candidate – who has repeatedly modelled herself as a moderate Democrat – is a ‘communist’ after Trump sensationally labelled her ‘Comrade Kamala.’

CNN anchor Abby Phillip also scoffed as she discussed the plan on-air Thursday while a Newsweek headline stated it was ‘riddled with problems.’

Price gouging refers to when big corporations raise prices higher than what is considered reasonable or fair during times of high inflation or limited supply.

It has been a hot political discussion since inflation started rising in 2021, rocketing to a high of 9.1 percent in June 2022 before cooling to an annual rate of 2.9 percent last month. It means food prices remain 21 percent higher than they were three years ago.

Harris this week insisted soaring costs at the grocery store are being exacerbated by greedy businesses as she laid out plans to crack down on ‘excessive corporate profits.’

It prompted a wave of criticism pointing out the plan would only lead to product shortages, black markets and hoarding.

The Post ran an editorial titled: ‘When your opponent calls you ‘communist,’ maybe don’t propose price controls?’
