Health Alert: Cucumbers In Over 31 States Recalled

The CDC has announced cucumbers sold in 31 states have been reportedly linked to salmonella.

In a press release, the FDA reported it had matched Salmonella strains found in untreated canal water near Bedner Growers Inc. in Florida.

Over 125 people have already been hospitalized after eating contaminated cucumbers, and 449 people have been reported ill.

The CDC is currently investigating what other cucumbers have been contaminated with salmonella.

Per NBC News:

Since June, the CDC has been investigating an outbreak linked to cucumbers originating with producers in Florida.

The true number of individuals sickened from the products has likely been much higher, the agency said, since not all were likely reported.

In a separate release, the Food and Drug Administration said it had matched Salmonella strains found in untreated canal water near Bedner Growers Inc., of Palm Beach County, Florida, to ones that comprise the outbreak — but that the grower “does not account for all the illnesses in this outbreak.”

Here’s what Fox Business reported:

Cucumbers in 31 states and the District of Columbia are being recalled after hundreds of people have reported illnesses linked to salmonella.

In an update, the Center of Disease Control (CDC) announced Salmonella Africana and Salmonella Braenderup infections, which were originally reported as two separate outbreaks.

The agency identified that 449 people were ill after eating salmonella-laden cucumbers and 125 people were hospitalized.

No one has died from salmonella linked to the infected cucumbers, the CDC said.

The government agency revealed that an investigation linked a strain of the infection to two sources.
