Colbert’s Audience Laughed At His Comment About CNN, But He Didn’t Intend It To Be A Joke

Anyone not aligned with “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert’s far-left, anti-Trump agenda probably has a hard time finding anything in his show to laugh at, but one remark he made during an interview with CNN personality Kaitlan Collins ended up being unintentionally funny.

He attempted to praise the cable news network as “objective” despite ample evidence revealing its political bias.

As Fox News reported:

“I know you guys are objective over there, that you just report the news as it is,” he told Collins as audience members started to laugh in the background.

“No, no no —” Colbert objected while waving his hand and grinning at the audience’s reaction. “CNN makes a…” he trailed off.

“Was that supposed to be a laugh line?” Collins reacted with a smirk.

“It wasn’t supposed to be, but I guess it is,” Colbert joked back before quickly pivoting to his question.

The exchange prompted some additional mockery on social media:

A top campaign aide for Donald Trump exposed CNN’s bias during an appearance on the network just before the debate the brought on Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race.

As NewsNation reported:

As CNN will host the debate, some Trump allies called for the former president to drop out after his campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt was cut off and booted from a live interview on the network with anchor Kasie Hunt on Monday.

In response to one of Hunt’s questions on what Trump is doing differently compared to the 2020 debates, Leavitt said he is “going into a hostile environment” on CNN with “debate moderators who have made their opinions about him very well known over the past eight years and their biased coverage of him.”

When asked what Trump’s team expects from Biden, Leavitt again brought up debate moderator Jake Tapper, before Hunt cut her off, warning her that she was going to stop the interview “if you’re going to keep attacking my colleagues.”

“You come on my show, you respect my colleagues,” Hunt said on X following the interview. “Period. I don’t care what side of the aisle you stand on, as my track record clearly shows.”
