DOJ Files Charges In Trump Assassination Attempt

The FBI and DOJ are finally holding someone accountable for the Trump Assassination attempt!

No, we’re not talking about the attempt on President Trump’s life during a Butler, PA rally.

Obviously, that one is case closed because it was the pimply Crooks kid…

Case closed. Moving on.

No, instead, they’ve got something much more important.

You see, according to the DOJ, IRAN is behind all this.

Yes, really. They’ve cracked the case of the Presidential Assassination, but it’s all Iran’s fault.

Let me explain….

The DOJ has just charged a Pakistani national by the name of Asif Merchant with conspiring to assassinate Donald Trump.

He is specifically being accused of working with a hitman to carry out an attempt on Trump’s life (and several other U.S. officials) in late Aug-early Sept.

Trump’s name is not specifically mentioned in the press release announcing the charges, but ABC 7 reports that he was one of the targets on this Pakistani man’s hit list.

A Pakistani national with purported ties to Iran was arrested last month on charges he plotted to assassinate former President Donald Trump and multiple other public officials, according to a criminal complaint unsealed Tuesday in Brooklyn federal court.

While the criminal complaint does not mention Trump by name, multiple sources familiar with the case told ABC News one of the intended targets of the alleged plot was Trump. Other possible targets included government officials from both sides of the aisle, the sources said.

After spending time in Iran, Asif Merchant flew from Pakistan to the U.S. to recruit hitmen to carry out the alleged plot, according to a detention memo. The person he contacted was a confidential informant working with the FBI, according to the criminal complaint.

Merchant, 46, is charged with murder for hire.

Asif was arrested July 12, one day prior Trump’s July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he was shot in the ear.

“For years, the Justice Department has been working aggressively to counter Iran’s brazen and unrelenting efforts to retaliate against American public officials for the killing of Iranian General Soleimani,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement. “The Justice Department will spare no resource to disrupt and hold accountable those who would seek to carry out Iran’s lethal plotting against American citizens, and will not tolerate attempts by an authoritarian regime to target American public officials and endanger America’s national security.”

A Pakistani man allegedly tied to Iran has been charged with an elaborate plot to assassinate current and former government officials, potentially including former President Donald Trump.

Asif Merchant, 46, faces a single count of murder for hire after prosecutors say he paid $5,000 to an undercover FBI agent he believed was a hit man, with whom he discussed a complex plot directed at a political figure who Merchant said would be surrounded by security.

The complaint against Merchant does not name an alleged target or targets, but a senior law enforcement official said Trump was one of the potential targets of this plot.

“This dangerous murder-for-hire plot exposed in today’s charges allegedly was orchestrated by a Pakistani national with close ties to Iran and is straight out of the Iranian playbook,” FBI Director Christopher Wray said in a statement.

Merchant was arrested as he tried to leave the country a day before Trump was shot in Pennsylvania, and officials do not believe there is any connection between the plot and the attempted assassination of the former president at a rally on July 13, in which the shooter and one member of the crowd were killed.
