Here’s Who Kamala Harris’ Running Mate Will Be According To Betting Odds

Shortly after Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race and endorsed Kamala Harris, several names were mentioned by the media as possible vice president candidates for Kamala Harris.

According to BetOnline, an online site that allows users to bet on possible presidential candidates and vice president candidates, Democrat Governor Josh Shapiro is listed as the front-runner for Harris’s VP pick.

Shapiro’s odds are at 7/4, followed by North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper at 3/1, and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear rounded out the top three at 5/1.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Governor of Maryland Wes Moore are also expected to be on Harris’ shortlist.

Here’s what Newsweek reported:

According to recent betting odds from online sportsbook BetOnline.ag, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has emerged as the front-runner to join Harris on the Democratic ticket should she be the party’s presidential nominee.

The odds, released on July 21, show Shapiro leading the pack with 7/4, followed closely by North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper at 3/1. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear rounds out the top three at 5/1, indicating a strong preference among bettors for current governors as potential vice-presidential nominees.

This focus on governors marks a departure from recent election cycles, which have often seen senators or other Washington insiders tapped for the VP slot. The preference for governors could reflect a desire within the Democratic Party to balance Harris’s Washington experience with executive leadership at the state level.

Here’s what CNN thinks of Shapiro:

Democrat Senator Mark Kelly’s name has also been considered a potential VP pick for Harris.

Per The Hill:

Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly (D) has become an influential voice for national Democrats, serving in the Senate since 2020. Democratic strategists and donors have named Kelly as among the top contenders best positioned to serve as Harris’s running mate.

According to a memo from a Democratic-funded polling group BlueLabs, Kelly is among several battleground Democrats that perform better than Biden in their respective states.

However, choosing Kelly could come with some risk for Senate Democrats. Arizona’s Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs would almost certainly appoint a Democrat to fill Kelly’s seat, but then that Democrat would have to run in 2026 and then again for a full term in 2028.
