From The Detroit News:
Former President Donald Trump said Saturday he’d like to run against Gov. Gretchen Whitmer this fall while ribbing Democrats on a Grand Rapids stage about their ongoing intra-party debate over President Joe Biden’s ability to stave off a second Trump presidency.
ADVERTISEMENTTrump criticized efforts by Democratic leaders to nudge Biden into retirement and polled the crowd about who they’d like him to run against — Vice President Harris or Biden — before panning Whitmer, who is regularly mentioned in political circles as a potential replacement presidential candidate.
“Welcome to Michigan, Donald Trump and JD Vance. Here’s what you need to know,” Whitmer said Saturday morning in conjunction with a video posted to social media.

The Hill reports:
Whitmer has been among a handful of Democrats floated as potential replacements for Biden amid lingering questions over the president’s candidacy. The Michigan governor has disavowed the speculation that she’s eyeing the presidency this cycle.
ADVERTISEMENTThe former president also quipped about Democrats’ uncertainty over their presidential nominee, saying, ”Number one, they have no idea who their candidate is, and neither do we. That’s a problem.”
Trump wasn’t the only one that took a jab at Whitmer. Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), Trump’s running mate, also dinged the Michigan governor while introducing Trump, calling her a “problem.”
