Country Star Just Made History


Country legend George Strait just made history.

On Saturday, Strait made history after 110,905 people gathered at his concert at Kyle Field at Texas A&M in College Station.

The record of most people in attendance for a ticketed concert was previously held by teh Grateful Dead, who gathered 107,019, but Strait’s latest concert had over 3,000 more attendees.

“What’s going on everybody?” country legend George Strait said to a record crowd of 110,905 ticket-buying fans gathered Saturday (June 15) at Kyle Field at Texas A&M in College Station. “We got some Aggie’s out there? Oh yeah! I’m ashamed to say this, but this is my first time to ever be in Kyle Field… damn! Just invite me back, I’ll come!”

Minutes ago, the Texas native set an all-time attendance record for a ticketed concert in the United States, previously held by the Grateful Dead, who had 107,019 fans in attendance at their 1977 show at Raceway Park in New Jersey. Strait’s show also and a new record for Texas A&M Kyle Field for a single event (previously recorded on Oct. 11, 2014, at 110,633, for a Texas A&M game against Ole Miss) with 110,905 fans in attendance for George Strait: The King at Kyle Field with special guests, fellow Lone Star natives and MCA labelmates, Parker McCollum and Catie Offerman.

Strait has set many records in his illustrious career: the most No. 1 singles of any artist in any genre, the only artist to chart a top 10 hit every year for 30 years, and the most No. 1 albums, gold albums, and platinum albums in the history of country music including 20 of his massive 60 No. 1 hits.

George Strait, the “king of country music,” is now also the “king of concerts.”

Strait broke the record for the largest U.S. ticketed show when he stepped onstage at Kyle Field at Texas A&M in College Station on Saturday.

The “Amarillo By Morning” singer played to a crowd of 110,905 fans in south Texas, breaking an all-time attendance record previously set by the Grateful Dead nearly 50 years ago.

In 1977, 107,019 fans packed into New Jersey’s Raceway Park to catch the Dead show. Strait bested that number on Saturday by nearly 4,000 tickets sold, according to Billboard.
