Walmart will slash hundreds of corporate employees and request remote workers to return to the office.
According to FOX Business, the corporation shared a memo with associates.
“The U.S. retailer is asking workers at offices in Dallas, Atlanta and Toronto to relocate to Walmart’s corporate base in Bentonville, Arkansas, a northeast office in Hoboken, New Jersey, or a central hub in Southern California,” the outlet stated.

“We believe that being together, in person, makes us better and helps us to collaborate, innovate and move even faster,” Walmart Chief People Officer Donna Morris said in the memo, according to NewsNation.

Per FOX Business:
The company will allow what is referred to as a hybrid schedule – where employees can work part-time remotely, so long as they are in office for the majority of their work week.
ADVERTISEMENT“While the overall numbers are small in percentage, we are focused on supporting each of our associates affected by these changes,” the memo by Chief People Officer Donna Morris states, adding that associates impacted have already been spoken to and the company will “work closely with them in the coming days and months to navigate the best path forward.”
Walmart ranked 97 on this year’s Fortune “100 Best Companies to Work For.” Fortune’s website says the company has 103,776 job openings.
“There are 2.1 million proud Walmart associates across the globe, from truck unloaders working their first jobs to some of the most influential executives in the industry – and everything in between,” Walmart says on its corporate website. “In fact, our CEO – Doug McMillon – has been in both roles, and his story isn’t uncommon among Walmart’s top leaders.”
“Walmart is doing something I call ‘ghost layoffs:’ They’re telling remote workers to come back to the office. Some office workers need to relocate elsewhere,” Dan Price, founder of Gravity Payments, said.
“They know people will quit. But they don’t have to pay severance or get bad PR from layoffs. BTW Walmart’s profit last year was $15.5 billion, up 33% from the year prior,” he added.

NewsNation reports:
On a “business update” call with employees Monday, remote workers were given until July 1 to make a decision about relocating or to quit with severance, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters.
The source said that those who decide to leave will receive two weeks’ pay for every year they worked at the company as severance.
With its latest announcement, the retail giant joins a growing list of companies that are moving away from remote work policies, which became popular during the pandemic.
ADVERTISEMENTThe decision also comes as the company continues work on a new 350-acre campus in northwest Arkansas. The new “Home Office” is scheduled to open in phases in 2025.
Walmart is the largest private employer in the U.S., with 1.6 million workers, most of whom work in stores across the country.
