Delta Airplane Lands In Seattle, Then Catches Fire [WATCH]

A Delta airplane caught fire after landing at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

The incident occurred on May 6th after a mechanical malfunction caused a fire near the nose of the Airbus A321neo.

The aircraft had just landed on a flight from Cancun when the plane burst into flames.

“I think people responded to that with panic, there was a little bit of jostling in the aisles to get to the exit,” Ashwin Menon said, according to KOMO News.

“But overall it was a pretty smooth evacuation process,” he added.

KOMO News reports:

The Seattle software engineer and his wife were returning to the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) after a quick four-day vacation to Mexico.

The plane was an Airbus A321neo that was less than 2 years old, according to Delta Spokesperson Morgan Durrant. There were 189 passengers, two pilots, and four flight attendants on board.

“It was like just jump out, jump onto the slides, and within a couple minutes everyone was out,” said Menon. “I was calmer than I thought I would be I’m quite afraid of flying.”

Minutes later they would learn what caused their evacuation of the aircraft after a seemingly normal arrival at gate A10 of SEA.

An airport spokesperson said around 9:35 p.m., Delta Flight 604 arrived from Cancun. After plugging into electric power, sparks caused a fire inside the nose area, according to officials.

The plane’s doors then open up and passengers are seen streaming out of the aircraft, with some walking onto its wings in order to reach a staircase down to the tarmac.

First responders are later seen gathering around the front of the plane.

“During deplaning on the evening of May 6, the crew of Flight 604 from Cancun to Seattle witnessed smoke in the aircraft nose area after plugging into ground electrical power,” a Delta spokesperson told FOX Business in a statement. “Out of an abundance of caution, slides were deployed and passengers still on board deplaned via the rear of the aircraft.”

“Passengers were fully evacuated, and those deplaned to the ramp returned to the terminal via the ramp stairs,” the spokesperson added. “All passengers exited to customs in the International Arrivals Facility for regular processing. The aircraft has been removed from service for inspection and maintenance.”
