Go Home Joe: Students At Morehouse College Protest Biden’s Upcoming Visit

Students at Morehouse College aren’t looking forward to Biden’s upcoming visit.

On Wednesday, dozens of students were seen gathered together to protest Biden’s upcoming visit to the HBCU.

One student told WSB-TV “The general feeling on the ground is that we don’t want him here.”

Another shared “It’s very obvious that we’re being used to score political points and get more Black votes. It is so obvious that it’s just about the presidential campaign.”

Several gathered at the men’s HBCU (Historically black colleges and universities) on Wednesday to call out the school’s decision to invite Biden, calling it purely political.

“The general feeling on the ground is that we don’t want him here,” a student named Malik told WSB-TV in Atlanta. “It’s very obvious that we’re being used to score political points and get more Black votes. It is so obvious that it’s just about the presidential campaign.”

The students’ issues with Biden speaking ranged from anger at his response to the Israel-Hamas war to a desire to want to avoid politics entirely at graduation.

“We don’t want Biden. We don’t want politics. And we definitely don’t want Biden to come speak politics,” one student said.

Another remarked, “There’s a lot more other prominent figures right now that can come to our colleges and universities and speak to us as Morehouse men.”

Fox 5 Atlanta had these details to add:

Approximately 50 people gathered at Morehouse College on Wednesday afternoon to protest President Joe Biden’s upcoming commencement address later this month. The diverse group included students from Morehouse, Spelman College, and Clark Atlanta University, along with local community members.

The protesters voiced opposition to Biden’s appearance, citing his support for Israel amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza. They called on the university to rescind the invitation extended to the President. It’s worth noting that the school invited Biden before Hamas’s October attacks, which killed thousands of Israelis and prompted a response from Israel that led to tens of thousands of Palestinian deaths, according to Gaza officials.

In addition to the conflict, the protesters also highlighted concerns about police militarization and the controversial Atlanta Public Safety Training Center, which they referred to as “Cop City.” They further demanded that Morehouse and other Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) divest from groups supporting Israel.
