Boxer Dead At 27 After Being Put In Coma Due To Knock Out


A 27-year-old boxer tragically died on Thursday after spending the last three weeks in a coma after being dealt a heavy blow in his last fight.

Congolese professional boxer Ardi Ndembo died on Thursday after being in a coma for over three weeks after being knocked out in his fight in Miami, Florida.

Ndembo, who was previously 8-0 was knocked out unconscious in his April 5th fight against Nestor Santana.

Viva Promotions, the boxing company that put on the fight, shared in a statement, “We at Viva Promotions mourn the loss of Ardi Ndembo, a talented Congolese boxer who tragically passed away after a knockout in a Team Combat League match on April 5th.”

A 27-year-old boxer died on Thursday after spending three weeks in a medically induced coma from his last fight.

Heavyweight Ardi Ndembo was knocked unconscious during his April 5 bout against Nestor Santana in Miami.

He was then transported to a local hospital, where he was placed in a coma, but he died earlier this week.

“We at Viva Promotions mourn the loss of Ardi Ndembo, a talented Congolese boxer who tragically passed away after a knockout in a Team Combat League match on April 5,” the promotion said in a statement, via the New York Post. “He remained in an induced coma until his untimely death. RIP Ardi Ndembo!”

Floyd Mayweather’s uncle, Jeff, works with the Team Combat League on the same team that Ndembo represented when he fought.

World Boxing Council president Mauricio Sulaiman confirmed the news on X, and paid tribute to the Congolese fighter and father-of-two.

“May he rest in peace,” he wrote on X. “Ardi Ndembo has passed away in Miami. Our condolences go to his family.”

Ndembo, who had a perfect 8-0 start to his career in his career, was knocked out by his opponent Nestor Santana while competing in a Team Combat League fight on April 5. He was unconscious in the ring for several minutes.
