GOP Rep Announces Abrupt Retirement, GOP Majority Now In CRITICAL Danger

Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wis) has announced his abrupt retirement from Congress.

The worst thing about this is the timing of Gallagher’s resignation. Because of the specific date Gallagher intends to resign, it will be impossible to hold special elections.

This means that Gallagher’s seat will now potentially be taken by a Democrat. Following Gallagher’s abrupt exit, the GOP will only be left with a majority of just one seat.

Famed White House reporter Simon Ateba explained the betrayal in greater detail:

“His departure further reduces the GOP’s already narrow majority in the House of Representatives. According to Wisconsin law, his seat cannot be filled until after the November election if he resigns as planned.

However, if he resigns before the second Tuesday in April, a special election could be held to fill the vacancy before November.”

According to NBC News:

A source close to Gallagher said the decision to leave was in the works and not related to anything happening in House lately.

Gallagher has a young family that he and his wife hope to grow and the House schedule is not conducive to that, the source said.
