“It’s 10 O’clock, do you know where your children are?”
These are the words of legendary, longtime Fox 5 news anchor Bill Jorgensen. For those who don’t know, Fox 5 is the local Fox broadcast station for New York City and one of the most notable local news stations in the country.
As a kid in New York, the line was practically burned into our skulls from successive 10 PM news anchors on Fox 5 who always used the same phrase.
Jorgensen tragically passed away at the age of 96, though the exact cause of death has not yet been revealed. The New York Post confirmed the tragic news on Saturday:
“His ‘never-give-up’ spirit lasted until his end of life, and I just hope to be able to follow his example as long as possible,” his daughter, Rebekah Jorgensen, wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday.
She did not share his cause of death.
The legendary news anchor would always sign off with “Thanking you for your time this time, until next time.” Fans and New Yorkers mourned the death of Jorgensen and paid him homage:
‘Its 10,0Clock do you know where your children are?’ the NYC WNEW NEWS Channel 5 call by News anchor Bill Jorgensen .. who passed at 96 . He totally reminded parents of the time 🙏🏿

Legend. I was fascinated by his anchorman gravitas from the time my area first got cable, which then included the independent New York City stations. His memorable sign-off line was, "Thanking you for your time this time until next time." Rest in peace, #BillJorgensen. pic.twitter.com/qVNa5x21l0

R.I.P. Bill Jorgensen, the original anchor of The 10 O’Clock News on Channel 5 in New York. IMO, he was the best writer with the best delivery of any local TV anchor. pic.twitter.com/lIDAEd9qFz

You may not ever know who Bill Jorgensen was. But for me he was the best news anchor ever. I watched his #wnew 10 O'Clock News religiously when I was a kid. He was a pro and he died at 96 y/o.
