Boeing Whistleblower’s Last Words To Friend: ‘If Anything Happens, It’s Not Suicide’

John Barnett, the Boeing whistleblower who was discovered dead by a gunshot wound in South Carolina, previously shared with a family friend he would never commit suicide.

Barnett’s death was ruled as a suicide from a self-conflicted gunshot wound, but a family friend who goes by Jennifer is not convinced.

In an exclusive interview with ABC, Jennifer shared, “I know that he did not commit suicide. There’s no way.”

The last time Jennifer saw him, she asked him if he was scared of exposing Boeing, to which Barnett replied, ‘No, I ain’t scared, but if anything happens to me, it’s not suicide.'”

Newsweek had more on the story:

John Barnett, the 62-year-old Boeing whistleblower discovered dead with a gunshot wound in South Carolina Saturday, had previously told a family friend not to believe what authorities would say if he was found dead, according to local network ABC News 4.

Police are investigating after Barnett was discovered in a hotel car park in Charleston with a single gunshot wound to the head, along with what officers described as a “silver handgun” and a “white piece of paper that closely resembled a note.” A coroner’s report said he died from a “self-inflicted” wound, though the Charleston Police Department is still making inquiries.

After retiring in 2019 Barnett accused Boeing, his employee of 32 years, of cutting corners and using sub-standard parts to build planes. He claimed to have reported this to management and been ignored, though Boeing has denied this.

Speaking to ABC News 4 Jennifer, who didn’t give a surname and was described by the network as a “close family friend” of Barnett, claimed he told her not to believe any reports of his suicide some time before his death.

Here’s what ABC 4 News reported:

A close family friend of John Barnett said he predicted he might wind up dead and that a story could surface that he killed himself.

But at the time, he told her not to believe it.

“I know that he did not commit suicide,” said Jennifer, a friend of Barnett’s. “There’s no way.”

Jennifer said they talked about this exact scenario playing out. However, now, his words seem like a premonition he told her directly not to believe.

“I know John because his mom and my mom are best friends,” Jennifer said. “Over the years, get-togethers, birthdays, celebrations and whatnot. We’ve all got together and talked.”
