Chris Cuomo Sits Down With Former Rival Tucker Carlson, Admits Trump Is ‘Going To Win’

Former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo has been busy recently. In addition to his new gig on News Nation, he has made appearances on a few high-profile shows where he’s weighed in on some of the most important issues of the day.

Despite his frequent criticism of former President Donald Trump, Cuomo nevertheless admitted that the presumptive GOP nominee seems like an unstoppable force in what is shaping up to be a rematch of the 2020 general election.

As the Denver Gazette reported:

Cuomo, who previously worked as an anchor for CNN, made his prediction shortly after President Joe Biden gave his annual State of the Union speech, which he was discussing on the PBD Podcast. The 2024 presidential election is predicted by many to be a rematch between Trump and Biden after former 2024 presidential candidate Nikki Haley suspended her campaign last week.

“This guy’s going to win,” Cuomo said, referring to Trump. “I’ve never seen people behind someone like this before. I’ve never been to rallies like that before for anyone. Obama didn’t even have rallies like that.”

When reflecting on the 2016 election, which was between Trump and then-Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, Cuomo suggested that the Democratic Party had made a mistake in not talking to the people that Trump ended up representing and instead told voters, “You’re an idiot” to vote for Trump. He then argued that the Democrats are “still making that mistake” ahead of the 2024 election.

He also took part in a wide-ranging interview with former Fox News Channel host (and frequent rival) Tucker Carlson. The two spent some of their time reflecting on what it was like to be fired from their respective previous employers.

They also went at it over the widespread gender debate currently impacting Western society.

At one point, Cuomo brought up Carlson’s frequent on-air critiques aimed at him.

The Cuomo-Carlson conversation also spilled over onto Cuomo’s News Nation program, and he attempted to explain to his leftist viewers why he would be willing to have a civil discussion with the prominent conservative.

According to The Hill:

Cuomo will surely catch heat from his left-leaning viewers who question the wisdom of providing Carlson a forum to discuss anything. Cuomo anticipated such concern and addressed it in a lengthy opening to his program, in which he called for Americans to have more conversations and avoid “groupthink” and “confirmation bias.” He likely didn’t convince anybody, but at least he provided context for his decision to engage a fellow journalist who is known for his pointed perspectives.

NewsNation should get a ratings bump from bringing on the controversial Carlson. He surely brought a number of his followers into the NewsNation tent, at least for one evening. NewsNation producers thought so much of the Carlson “get” that host Dan Abrams opened his own show in the next hour with a lengthy post-Carlson interview with Cuomo.

Here’s how he explained it on air:
