Super Tuesday the Stage For Trump to Deliver Knockout Blow to Haley

President Trump has been on a roll recently, winning state after state, with Haley acting as a thorn in his side.

Super Tuesday, in which 15 states hold their Republican nominating contests, setting the stage for a major primary vote.

While there has been a lot of news surrounding the previous votes, just 331 delegates to the Republican National Convention will have been chosen – just 14% of the total.

However, on Super Tuesday, 854 delegates (35%) are up for vote.

ABC News has more on the polls leading into Super Tuesday:

If there is suspense in the presidential race on Tuesday, though, it’s not about who is going to win the most states or delegates — it’s about whether former President Donald Trump will go 15 for 15. Regardless of whether he completes the sweep, with his massive lead in the polls, Trump is very likely to emerge from Super Tuesday on the cusp of mathematically clinching the Republican nomination, which he can do as early as March 12.

There are enough polls for 538 to calculate a polling average* of six of the 15 states voting on Tuesday: California, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. As of 1 p.m. Eastern on Monday, Trump leads Haley by at least 37 percentage points in each of them

Trump also leads by at least 42 points in the few polls we have this year from Alabama, Maine, Minnesota and Oklahoma. His lead is smaller, though still substantial, in the most recent surveys of Utah (27 points) and Vermont (30 points). There have been no polls of Alaska, Arkansas or Colorado in months, if at all, but based on what polls say in demographically similar states, we believe Trump has solid leads in them as well.

President Trump was seen at Mar-a-Lago on March 4th, encouraging people to vote:

President Trump has dominated the Republican campaign from the start, even with his impending charges. He even swept all but one of the initial nominating contests.

Reuters has more on how important the Super Tuesday is in terms of votes:

While Trump cannot win enough delegates on Tuesday to formally clinch the nomination, another dominant performance would essentially end any remaining sliver of suspense. All told, Tuesday’s contests will award more than one-third of Republican delegates – and more than 70% of the number needed to secure the nomination.

With a lot of polls projecting President Trump to dominate, there are a few areas that President Trump could struggle in.

U.S. News has more on President Trump’s vulnerabilities:

Haley allies see a narrow window of opportunity to eke out a win in states such as Virginia, Massachusetts and Vermont, which have more of the wealthy, college-educated voters who tend to support her candidacy.

Another competition to watch could be Utah, whose sizable Mormon population is cool on Trump.

Trump’s advisers have said they expect him to eliminate Haley mathematically no later than March 19; at that point, two-thirds of the states will have voted. Trump is scheduled to begin his first criminal trial six days later in New York, where he is charged with falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments to a porn star.
