Ron DeSantis Calls For Ilhan Omar To Be Deported After Inappropriate Speech

Squad member Rep. Illhan Omar has come under fire after a speech she gave where she seemingly gave her commitment to Somalia above all else.

This speech did not sit well with others.

Flordia Governor Ron DeSantis made a bold statement on X today where he said, “Expel from Congress, denaturalize and deport!” about Ilhan Omar.

The New York Post shares more on the story:

A top House Republican called on Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) to resign Monday for delivering a speech in which her critics say she placed Somali interests ahead of American ones.

“Ilhan Omar’s appalling, Somalia-first comments are a slap in the face to the Minnesotans she was elected to serve and a direct violation of her oath of office,” House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) wrote on X. “She should resign in disgrace.”

Omar, the first Somali American in Congress, appeared to assure her Somali American constituents that she would do everything in her power to prevent the disputed, breakaway Republic of Somaliland from entering into a sea-access deal with landlocked Ethiopia.

A clip of the Minnesota lawmaker went viral with over 2.6 million views after it was posted on X, with a translation saying Omar had said: “As Somalis, one day we will go after our missing territories.”

Many are unhappy with the speech given by the Squad member.

After this speech, more shady practices surrounding Ilhan Omar came to light.

NBC 15 shares more on the story:

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., was grilled on social media after footage from a speech showed her telling an audience she is one of many who are “Somalians first, Muslims second.”

Her comments came during an address featuring Somalian leaders at a hotel in Minnesota. Speaking in Somali, the representative did not mention her allegiance to the United States.

We are an organized society, brothers and sister,” Rep. Omar said, according to translated captions. “People of the same blood. People who know they are Somalians first, Muslims second.”

She went on to promise the audience she would be working “from inside the U.S. system” to protect them and their lands.

“For as long as I am in Congress, Somalia will never be in danger, its waters will not be stolen by Ethiopia or others,” Rep. Omar said. “The U.S. would not dare support anyone against Somalia to steal our land or oceans. Sleep in comfort knowing I am here to protect the interests of Somalia from inside the U.S. system.

Somaliland Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Rhoda Elmi condemned the address, explaining it was “regrettably unbecoming.”

The language she employed was regrettably unbecoming of both the office she holds and the constituents she represents,” Elmi said. “Her expressions were lacking in common decency and revealed a significant lack of understanding of basic facts.”
