Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s Call for Gaza Ceasefire Met with Backlash Online

The Democratic mayor of Chicago, Brandon Johnson, recently added his name to the growing list of political figures calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.

It was an unsurprising move from a mayor who seems to jump at every opportunity he can find to call attention away from the problems presently destroying his city.

Perhaps a ceasefire in Chicago is in order?

Netizens were quick to call out Johnson’s blatant pandering by pointing out the violence currently occurring in Chicago.

More voiced their opinions about the greenhorn mayor and his focus on foreign affairs.

This isn’t the first time Johnson has been getting heat on social media.

The Chicago mayor also came under fire recently for objecting to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s decision to fly illegal immigrants to the self-proclaimed “sanctuary city.”

It seems the Chicago mayor can’t help himself.

He desperately wants to be adored; receiving attention and praise from his liberal constituents.

But every time he steps out and says something he thinks will please his echo chamber, he’s met with the heavy hand of public opinion that reveals what people really think about him in his own city.

Fox News reported on the previous backlash against the Chicago mayor:

Social media users tore into Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson after he complained about Gov. Greg Abbott flying illegal immigrants into his city without warning him.

Johnson took to the X platform Sunday to lament the fact that a plane from San Antonio had brought in hundreds of U.S. Southern Border crossers without his knowledge.

The mayor’s posts were met with conservative users mocking him for not being more welcoming, as the city’s government has proclaimed Chicago to be a “sanctuary city.”

The mayor wrote, “This morning just after 1 a.m., a private Boeing 777 originating from San Antonio, Texas landed at the Rockford/Chicago airport carrying 350 asylum seekers. There was no communication from Texas, and the City of Chicago was alerted by authorities in Rockford regarding the flight.”

In a subsequent post, he added, “Upon landing, asylum seekers were placed on buses chartered by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and dropped in various surrounding suburbs, left to find their way to the city. This is the second recorded instance of the Texas governor transporting asylum seekers via private plane.”

The posts did not seem to generate much sympathy on the Chicago government’s behalf.
