Earlier today, Trump appeared in court to listen to E. Jean Carroll testify in a defamation trial filed against him.
Previously, Judge Lewis Kaplan – a Clinton appointed judge – ruled that Trump is liable for so-called ‘defamatory’ (and brutally honest) statements he made about Carroll after she accused Trump of raping her in a dressing room in 2019.
Remember how he called her a “whack job” and pointed out she’s “not my type”? Yep, those are the types of statements Trump is now being sued over.
Trump has denied all allegations. During this trial, a jury will decide how much Trump will be forced to pay to Carroll for defamation.
During her testimony, Trump lawyer Alina Habba cross-examined Carroll and got her to admit to something outright criminal – deleting email evidence under subpoena.
Following in the footsteps of Hillary Clinton, much?
Trump’s amazing attorney @AlinaHabba got Carroll to admit under oath that she deleted evidence under subpoena, but the Judge defended Carroll because she’s suing Trump. All these cases need to be thrown out & Ms. Carroll should be charged & sued by Trump. https://t.co/6nmmQAzuOf

Trump’s attorney interrogated Carroll about deleting emails, which she admitted to doing despite getting a subpoena. She defended herself, saying the emails were “just replies, slime” that contained “death threats.”
Take a look at these transcripts from the trial, which were posted on X:
Habba: You said you receive death threats daily – but you deleted then until trial? Explain what you mean.
Judge Kaplan: Explain what she means by what?
Habba: When did you stop deleting death threats?
Carroll: I had not received how many there were.— Inner City Press (@innercitypress) January 17, 2024
Habba: So you have the death threats?
Carroll: I deleted them.
Habba: So you-
Carroll's lawyer: Asked and answered.
Habba: This is a very important question
Carroll's lawyer: I object to the commentary too— Inner City Press (@innercitypress) January 17, 2024
Habba: Do you keep the supporting emails?
Carroll: Yes. I tend to delete questions that I know I won't use. But I have an entire label for supportive messages.
Habba: Do you control your email?
Carroll: Yes.
Habba: So only you deleted them?
Carroll: Yes.— Inner City Press (@innercitypress) January 17, 2024
However, Judge Kaplan rushed to Carroll’s defense, denying Trump’s lawyer’s demand for a mistrial since Carroll deleted huge amounts of evidence!
Not only that, but he moved to disregard everything that Trump’s lawyer said about Carroll illegally deleting evidence…
Read the court transcript for yourself:
Habba: Ms. Carroll, are you aware it is illegal to delete evidence?
Carroll's lawyer: Objection
Habba: I move for a mistrial, evidence has been deleted
Judge Kaplan: Denied and the jury will disregard everything Ms. Habba just said— Inner City Press (@innercitypress) January 17, 2024
Following today’s trial, Trump posted about Carroll’s admission on Truth Social, calling it “an amazing Day of Trial.”

TRUMP COURT CASE:

The Daily Mail has more on what happened during the Trump court case today:
Donald Trump‘s lawyer Alina Habba demanded a mistrial in the E. Jean Carroll defamation case as her cross examination descended into chaos on Wednesday.
Judge Lewis Kaplan, who has frequently slapped down the attorney in the courtroom, quickly denied her request after columnist Carroll admitted she deleted emails after accusing Trump of rape.
The former president, 77, shook his head in disagreement and stared at the floor as Habba continued questioning Carroll on the tense second day of the $10 million defamation trial.
Trump dared Judge Kaplan to throw him out of court for complaining too loudly that the case was a ‘con job’ and a ‘witch’ hunt’ in one of the many tense exchanges in the Manhattan courtroom.
During her emotional testimony, Carroll choked up as she told the jury she received so many death threats she bought bullets for a rifle she kept by her bed.
After leaving court, Trump said on Truth Social that it was an ‘amazing’ day of trial because Carroll admitted ‘deleting massive amounts of evidence, under subpoena, which is a crime‘.
‘Based on that alone, both this trial and the first trial should be immediately dismissed!.’ he added.
The Washington Examiner also reported:
Former President Donald Trump levied accusations at writer E. Jean Carroll following a contentious day in the defamation trial where he is accused of defaming her.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump declared the hearing an “amazing Day of Trial.” He then went on to say that Carroll “admitted” to activity that was a crime.
“We learned that E. Jean Carroll is no ‘baby,’” the former president wrote. “She admitted on the stand to deleting massive amounts of evidence, under subpoena, which is a crime. Based on that alone, both this trial and the first trial should be immediately dismissed! Additionally, she first admitted to having a gun without a license, but then admitted to buying bullets for a rifle, not a handgun, which perhaps makes no sense. Her lawyers went crazy—and so did the Judge trying to protect her and this Complete and Total Election Interfering Witch Hunt!”
At Wednesday’s hearing, U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan threatened to eject Trump from the courtroom after Carroll’s lawyers alleged unruly behavior on his part.
