A Democrat challenger to Joe Biden has gained some steam and notoriety last week after a notable hedge fund manager donated $1 million to his campaign.
Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) now has the financial backing and support of billionaire Bill Ackman.
The hedge fund manager has been pushing the need for a Democrat alternative to an ailing Joe Biden for some time now.
Even though Phillips’ campaign has gained steam over the last week, he is still considered a long-shot Presidential candidate.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has long been floated as the most likely and viable Democrat alternative to Biden, but it remains to be seen whether any of these alternative candidates wins the DNC nomination. Here’s more on the story:

The Hill presented this statement from Ackman following the campaign contribution to Phillips:
“On Tuesday, I am wiring $1 million to wedeserve.org, a political action committee that supports Dean’s run.
ADVERTISEMENTThis is by far the largest investment I have ever made in someone running for office, and I am making this investment at a high-risk, but critically important moment for his campaign.”
Despite this, some Democrat voters continued to chastise Phillips in favor of 81-year-old Joe Biden. However, national polling shows the Democrat incumbent is in dire straits politically.

NATIONAL POLL: Should Voter ID Be Mandatory In All Elections?
Reuters spoke to Phillips, who highlighted the difference between him and Biden:
“His relative inactivity on the southern border, I think, is tragic for the Democratic Party and for the country.
The first order of business for a president is to provide security and there’s just no perspective whatsoever that anybody can make that is manifest at the southern border.”
ADVERTISEMENTI’ve been there twice. It’s a disaster. There’s no question. It has to be hardened.
And we have to create buffer zones on each side. And we have to reform our asylum law and we have to work together to do it.”
