WATCH: Jill Biden Claims “What They Are Doing to Hunter is Cruel”

Today, Jill Biden sat down for an interview with MSNBC to speak out in defense of her husband and son, Hunter.

She called the investigations against Hunter “cruel” and said that she is “really proud of how Hunter has rebuilt his life after addiction.”

Watch the clip from Jill’s interview here:

Here’s a partial transcript from Jill Biden’s Thursday interview with MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski:

BRZEZINSKI: How have you been coping personally with the onslaught of accusations against your husband and your family, including and especially Hunter, the focus of the House Oversight Committee hearing, holding him in contempt, obsessing over him, showing pictures of him during vulnerable moments —

BIDEN: Horrible.

BRZEZINSKI: — in his battle with addiction on the floor of the House?

This would crush any family.

BIDEN: Mika, I think what they are doing to Hunter is cruel. And I’m really proud of how Hunter has rebuilt his life after addiction. You know, I love my son. And it’s had — it’s hurt my grandchildren. And that’s what I’m so concerned about, that it’s affecting their lives as well.

BRZEZINSKI: What do you think when you hear Trump Republicans calling you the Biden crime family or —

(LAUGHTER)

BRZEZINSKI: I have one congresswoman: The Biden crime family sold out America, Marjorie Taylor Greene. He’s a liar. He’s mentally incompetent.

And let’s not even talk about what “Let’s go, Brandon” means, but you have U.S. senators holding signs that say that. Biden —

(CROSSTALK)

BIDEN: It’s hard to realize our country, isn’t it? I mean, to look at it, what we used to have, and what the other side, the extremists have turned this country into.
I mean, we would never see things like that, say, 10 years ago.

BRZEZINSKI: This has got to be so different than any races that you and your husband have run.

BIDEN: It is, yes. Yeah.

BRZEZINSKI: A little scary?

BIDEN: It is a little scary. And I think it’s — but I — I think it’s not just for me and for Joe, but just to see what happened.

As many social media users have pointed out in response to Jill’s comments about the investigations into her son’s shady lifestyle, it’s not Hunter’s crack addiction on trial here…

During her interview, Jill Biden condemned Marjorie Taylor-Greene for showing a “horrible” explicit photo of Hunter during a House Oversight Committee hearing on Wednesday. Here’s that photo, for reference:

ABC News reported on Jill Biden’s defense of Hunter and Joe:

First lady Jill Biden is defending her family amid accusations from Republicans about President Joe Biden and their son Hunter, while also attempting to ease concerns over the president’s age going into the 2024 election.

During an interview that aired Thursday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe, Biden called it “horrible” that GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene displayed an explicit photo of Hunter Biden during a House Oversight Committee hearing Wednesday.

Greene did so after he made a surprise appearance as Republicans pushed a contempt of Congress resolution against him.

Jill Biden was asked how she’s been coping with Republicans accusing the president, without hard evidence, of benefiting from his son’s business dealings and trying to hold Hunter in contempt.

“I think what they are doing to Hunter is cruel. And I’m really proud of how Hunter has rebuilt his life after addiction,” she told Mika Brzezinksi. “I love my son and it’s had — it’s hurt my grandchildren and that’s what I’m so concerned about, that it’s affecting their lives as well.”

Biden laughed off Republicans using the term “Biden crime family” and said it’s “hard to realize our country” when people are seen standing with signs that say, “Let’s Go Brandon” or her husband being called a “liar” and “mentally incompetent.”

USA Today added some situational context to the interview about Hunter’s legal troubles:

First Lady Jill Biden came out in defense of her and President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, saying the relentless attacks by Congressional Republicans are cruel.

“I think what they are doing to Hunter is cruel, and I’m really proud of how Hunter has rebuilt his life after addiction,” the first lady told “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski in an interview on MSNBC that aired Thursday.

Jill Biden’s interview comes a day after Hunter Biden made a surprise appearance on Capitol Hill and two different House committees voted to hold him in contempt of Congress. The first lady’s direct answers were seemingly uncharacteristic. The Bidens have avoided making public comments about Hunter Biden’s personal or ongoing legal issues, reiterating only that they love their son.

“I love my son and it’s hard, it’s hurt my grandchildren. And that’s what I’m so concerned about, that it’s affecting their lives as well,” said Jill Biden.

The House Oversight and the Judiciary committees were holding two separate votes to hold the younger Biden in contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena that would have required him to sit for a closed-door interview in a Republican-led investigation of him and his father.
