Defense Secretary Austin Medical Mystery Revealed: It’s Cancer

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin tried to keep his hospitalization a secret, reportedly neglecting to inform the White House and even his own deputy for days after he was admitted to Walter Reed last week.

While some details have surfaced recently, it wasn’t until Tuesday that the nature of his medical condition was revealed to be prostate cancer.

According to NBC News:

The cancer was discovered after a routine prostate screening and was revealed in lab tests in early December, Walter Reed officials said. The surgical procedure he underwent on Dec. 22 was a prostatectomy, and Austin was “under general anesthesia” during it.

“Secretary Austin recovered uneventfully from his surgery and returned home the next morning. His prostate cancer was detected early, and his prognosis is excellent,” the officials said.

Austin, 70, was then admitted to Walter Reed on Jan. 1 “with complications from the December 22 procedure, including nausea with severe abdominal, hip, and leg pain,” the officials said.

An initial evaluation found that he had a urinary tract infection and on Jan. 2, a decision was made to transfer Austin to the intensive care unit for “close monitoring and a higher level of care,” the statement said.

The secrecy surrounding his hospitalization led to widespread backlash from a variety of sources.

Former President Donald Trump was among those who called for Austin to be fired.

Former President Donald Trump publicly called on President Joe Biden to fire Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin for the delayed announcement about his hospitalization.

The former president issued his decree from his Truth Social account on Sunday.

“Failed Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin should be fired immediately for improper professional conduct and dereliction of duty, He has been missing for one week, and nobody, including his boss, Crooked Joe Biden, had a clue as to where he was, or might be,” said Trump. “He has performed poorly, and should have been dismissed long ago, along with ‘General’ Mark Milley, for many reasons, but in particular the catastrophic surrender in Afghanistan, perhaps the most embarrassing moment in the history of our Country!”
