JUST IN: NRA Chief RESIGNS Amid Scandal

The head of the National Rifle Association (NRA) recently announced his resignation from the organization.

Wayne LaPierre, the long-time CEO of the organization, has been at the helm of the NRA since 1991. However, he resigned as head of the organization on January 5th amid a fraud scandal alleged by the New York AG.

Letitia James alleges that both LaPierre and the NRA’s Senior Strategist engaged in ‘financial abuse’ and fraud by siphoning off the money for personal use. James will bring the case before a court as early as next week.

New York Attorney General Letitia James claimed: “Former NRA Senior Strategist Joshua Powell admitted to our claims of fraud and abuse against him and the NRA. Powell’s admission and Wayne LaPierre’s resignation are victories that confirm what we’ve alleged for years: the NRA and its senior leaders engaged in financial abuse.”

The Epoch Times had more on the inbound case:

The court will hear Ms. James’s claims that Mr. LaPierre and former NRA officials Wilson Phillips, John Frazer, and Joshua Powell misused NRA funds to pay for personal expenses, including travel on private jets, in violation of New York law.

The defendants claim that Ms. James’s case is a politically motivated attempt to take down an organization she disagrees with.

Citizens for Ethics reminded readers: “With Wayne LaPierre out at the NRA, reminder that CREW filed an IRS complaint back in 2020 against the NRA for apparently violating federal tax law by making payments for the private benefit of LaPierre and his family.”

LaPierre made this statement via the NRA’s social media page:

“With pride in all that we have accomplished, I am announcing my resignation from the NRA. I’ve been a card-carrying member of this organization for most of my adult life, and I will never stop supporting the NRA and its fight to defend Second Amendment freedom. My passion for our cause burns as deeply as ever.”

According to NBC News:

The attorney general claims LaPierre spent more than $500,000 of the NRA’s assets to fly himself and his family members to the Bahamas.

From May 2015 to April 2019, the NRA incurred over $1 million in expenses for private flights in which LaPierre was not a passenger, according to the lawsuit.
