Suspected Serial Killer Arrested In Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Police Department has announced a suspect has been identified in the recent killings of three homeless men last week.

Jerrod Powell, 33, has been made a suspect in the killings but was already in custody for killing a county employee in the same week.

LA Police Chief stated Powell was arrested and made a prime suspect after surveillance footage was able to identify Powell’s car at the scene of the murders.

A handgun was also found in the same car and matched the gun that was used in the murders.

Per NBC:

Los Angeles police announced Saturday that a suspect has been identified in connection with the killings of three homeless men this week.

The suspect, Jerrid Joseph Powell, 33, was already in custody after having been arrested in the killing of a county employee earlier in the week.

Powell was arrested Thursday and accused of shooting and killing a San Dimas, California, father of two during a follow-home robbery Tuesday.

Police Chief Michel Moore said Saturday that police were able to match Powell’s car, seen in security video from the killing Tuesday, to the car they had identified as being driven by the suspect believed to be responsible for killing the three homeless people.

Here’s what USA Today shared:

Police have identified a suspect in the recent “serial” killings of three homeless men in Los Angeles. The 33-year-old they say matches the profile of the shooter was already in custody for another killing this week during a robbery in an L.A. suburb.

The four killings happened over four consecutive days.

The slayings of the homeless men prompted officials to issue regional warnings to people living on the streets of the nation’s second-largest city, which faces a glaring homelessness crisis.

Officials sounded the alarm Friday about a “serial killer” targeting homeless people across a 12-mile stretch from South Los Angeles to the northern part of the city’s downtown. They described the suspect they were seeking as a man seen driving a dark-colored sedan.
