JUST IN: George Santos Provides Critical Update On Ongoing Case

Republican lawmaker George Santos has provided a critical update on the ongoing resolution against him.

Following the findings of an Ethics Committee report, Santos told listeners in an ‘X Spaces’ room that he expects to be expelled from Congress once his colleagues vote on the resolution.

Santos has already said that he will not be seeking another term in Congress due to the report, but now he is facing expulsion from Congress—an incredibly rare outcome.

If legally convicted he could also face up to 20 years behind bars, though Santos has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. Here’s more on the story:

MSNBC’s Kyle Griffin provided this quote from Santos:

“Within the ranks of the United States Congress, there’s felons galore, there’s people with all sorts of sheisty backgrounds.

I have colleagues who are more worried about getting drunk every night with the next lobbyists that they’re going to screw and pretend like none of us know what’s going on and sell off the American people.

Not show up to vote because they’re too hungover or whatever the reason is, or not show up to vote at all and just give their card out like fucking candy for someone else to vote for them. This shit happens every single week. Where are the ethics investigations?”

Just The News summarized the charges against Santos:

The 56-page report also found he “deceived donors” and “reported fictitious loans to his political committees to induce donors and party committees to make further contributions to his campaign – and then diverted more campaign money to himself.”

ABC News explained: “Only five times in history has a member of the U.S. House of Representatives been expelled. Embattled Republican Rep. George Santos is facing another attempt to make him the sixth.”

Axios reports: “A growing number of lawmakers in both parties who previously voted against expelling Rep. George Santos have flipped and now say they will vote to remove him following an explosive Ethics Committee report.”

According to The Hill:

Santos was charged on seven counts of wire fraud, three counts of money laundering, one count of theft of public funds and two counts of making materially false statements to the House.

The other indictment charged him with one count of conspiracy to commit offenses against the U.S., two counts of wire fraud, two counts of making materially false statements to the Federal Election Commission, two counts of falsifying records submitted to obstruct the FEC, two counts of aggravated identity theft and one count of access device fraud.
