House Lawmakers Reach Decision On Rep. Jamaal Bowman Investigation

House lawmakers have finally reached a decision on whether or not to proceed with an investigation into Democrat Rep. Jamaal Bowman.

WLTR previously reported that Bowman had purposefully pulled a fire alarm to disrupt Congressional proceedings.

Initially, Bowman denied having pulled the alarm but video evidence contradicted his account.

In response to his behavior, concerned lawmakers sought to launch an investigation into the Congressman.

Now, we are learning that the proposed investigation is dead on arrival because the House Ethics Committee just voted against investigating Bowman. Is anyone really surprised? Axios confirmed:

Bowman agreed to plead guilty last month to one charge of a false fire alarm and pay a $1,000 fine to avoid prosecution by the D.C. attorney general.

A majority of the panel – which consists of five Republicans and five Democrats – did not vote to establish an investigative subcommittee, the release said.

Greg Price shared the letter and commented: “No DOJ charge for “obstructing an official proceeding” for Bowman or investigation from House Ethics. Just one misdemeanor.”

The Hill provided some background information on the incident:

Bowman pulled the fire alarm ahead of a House vote to pass a stopgap measure to fund the government ahead of the shutdown deadline.

Following the incident, some Republicans accused Bowman of intentionally trying to sabotage the pending vote, and others even introduced a bill to censure Bowman.
