McCarthy Changes Tune, Provides Update On Political Future

Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (D-CA) might be done with Congress for good.

The Representative from California was recently ousted from within the GOP and replaced by Mike Johnson, some celebrated this move, but I personally don’t see much difference between Johnson and McCarthy.

We haven’t seen much of McCarthy since his ouster, but now the former Speaker has indicated that his political future may not be set in stone.

McCarthy told the media that he may not be returning to Congress. He went on to say that the holidays are coming up and he will discuss the matter of whether to return to Congressional politics with his family. Axios provided this statement from McCarthy:

“I got the holidays, I’ll talk to my family about the ideas of what going forward, and then I’ll make a decision.

I always believe, and you hear me all of the time. You never give up in the process, right?

Well, there’s so many ways you can do that to make sure you’re getting the job done, and I’m gonna look at all options.”

This represents a departure from his previous trajectory in which he indicated that he would definitely be seeking re-election and a return to Congress.

As you can see from just some of these reactions from around social media conservative voters are not happy with Kevin McCarthy at all:

Newsmax had more on the story:

McCarthy has hinted both ways, including suggesting he was done and also saying he was ready to run again.

McCarthy refused to give an inclination on where he is leaning now, telling CNN, “I don’t know.”
