Alabama preacher and mayor F.L. “Bubba” Copeland shot and killed himself after a conservative news site wrote an expose just days ago exposing his online transgender persona.
The police were asked to perform a welfare check on Copeland; the police tailed his car before Copeland exited the vehicle and shot himself.
The tiny town of Smiths Station is mourning the loss of Copeland.
The New York Post shares more on the story:
Copeland’s suicide followed an exposé in 1819 News, a news site once owned by the conservative think tank, the Alabama Policy Institute, that described Copeland’s secret life online as a transgender woman under the pseudonym Brittini Blaire Summerlin.
“Brittini” described herself as a “transitioning transgender curvy girl, that loves smiling, clothes, and shoes!”
One of his social media profiles showed Copeland wearing different women’s outfits, including bedroom photos of himself in women’s underwear.
1819 News also reported that Copeland could be seen wearing some of his wife’s clothes in his posts.

The death of Copeland has spurred discussion on who’s to blame.

While others blame this online person that they engaged in.
The Daily Mail shares more on the story:
The First Baptist Church of Phenix City has been in mourning ever since, changing its profile picture on Facebook to a black ribbon.
ADVERTISEMENTImages posted by 1819 showed Copeland dressed up in women’s clothing and makeup, while excerpts of his writing revealed he wrote about killing a local businesswoman and assuming her identity.
The website also claimed that Copeland had posted photos of minors on Reddit as part of memes about transitioning.
In one, images of a local brother and sister were used to make it appear as through the boy had transitioned, the outlet reports.
During a sermon on Wednesday prior to his death, Copeland apologized to his flock and told them his wife was aware of his activity.
‘Yes, I have taken pictures with my wife in the privacy of our home in an attempt at humor because I know I’m not a handsome man or a beautiful woman either,’ Copeland said.
