The Voices The Maine Shooter Heard Leading Up To Shooting Revealed

Robert Card, the man responsible for killing 18 people in Maine, was confirmed to have heard voices speaking to him leading up to the mass shooting.

It was revealed that Robert Card was hearing voices calling him a “pedophile.”

Robert Card was also fearful that people were casing his house.

Many were already concerned about Card leading up to the incident, fearing that Card would snap and do something terrible.

The New York Post shares more on the story:

Deranged Maine mass shooter Robert Card had repeatedly claimed he could hear voices in his head calling him a “pedophile” and was paranoid that people were “casing” his home in the months before he massacred 18 people, police reports obtained by The Post show.

The 40-year-old gunman’s family were among the first to alert authorities about his erratic behavior after he started verbally lashing out at them and once opened the door to them brandishing a gun, according to at least two Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office incident reports.

Card — who, according to his relatives, had been drinking heavily in the lead-up to last week’s mass shooting in Lewiston — had become so paranoid that people were calling him a pedophile that he’d talked about wanting to hire a lawyer.

The Maine National Guard, too, had become so concerned about the US Army reservist that it had urged local authorities to carry out a welfare check because fellow soldiers feared Card would “snap and commit a mass shooting.”

Card’s son and his ex-wife had also flagged their concerns about his deteriorating mental health to the local sheriff’s office back in May, an initial incident report shows.

It continues to blow my mind that nothing was done about Robert Card beforehand.

The signs were there, but nobody wanted to do anything.

ABC News shares more on the story:

Card’s son concluded his father was “likely hearing voices or starting to experience paranoia,” a “re-occurring theme” as Card claimed derogatory things were being said about him, “such as calling him a pedophile,” Carleton wrote.

That paranoia and anger would be turned towards his own family, [Card’s son] recounting that in April he had visited his father and Card “became very angry, accusing him of saying things about him behind his back.”

In the aftermath of the carnage that rocked rural Maine last week a portrait of who Robert Card was is now coming into fuller public view – though the documents show that worrisome warnings had already been communicated to law enforcement for months.

“Robert is currently an Army Reservist assigned to a training unit in Saco and has historically instructed soldiers on the use of hand grenades,” Carleton learns from Card’s son and ex-wife, according to the May incident report.

“Cara said she is very worried about [their son] spending time with Robert, considering what may be a deteriorating mental health condition,” Carleton wrote.

When there are so many red flags, such as the ones being shown in Robert Card’s case, why wasn’t anything done in preparation?

Of course, Democrats are going to spin this story in a way that encourages stricter gun reforms.

This is not a gun problem.

This is a mental health problem and even a policing issue.
