Too Late To Turn Back? Democrat Mayor Gives New Order To Police

Boston’s Mayor Michelle Wu has given the police the green light to dismantle a notorious part of town labeled the “Methadone Mile.”

This stretch of Boston is resident to rampant homelessness, drug use, and crime.

The area has many homeless people living in ‘tent cities.’

Mayor Wu wishes to relocate the individuals living in this area and begin prosecuting anyone committing crimes there.

Is it too little too late for Boston?

Has Democrat policies once again destroyed a once beautiful city after letting criminals roam free?

The area has been riddled with crime, prompting mayor Michelle Wu to begin the process of dissolving the tent encampment, a process which will start on Nov. 1.

A report in the Boston Herald said that residents of the tent city have been notified of the new rule in several languages. Any newcomers to the camp will be met by a coordinated team of social workers and law enforcement who will inform them that no new tents will be allowed.

“There is no magic wand in a very complex, long-standing challenge that cities around the country are facing with the opiate crisis, homelessness, mental health, but we know that in Boston we have a very good sense of, not only who it is that needs services, but also how to most effectively connect people with those services,” Wu told local outlet WCVB.

According to the Herald, the problem – which Wu inherited from former Mayor Marty Walsh before he was called up to serve in the Biden administration — persisted despite her efforts to connect the between the 80–90 people on any given day to social services. That number was decreased from roughly 200 per day, according to reports.

Wu’s plan to solve the problem is three-pronged, starting with allowing police to remove tents and tarps is the first step, followed by connecting them with housing and other services.

Democrats are beginning to wake up to the fact that their policies are killing cities.

Nobody wants to live in these cities anymore because of rampant crime.

D.C.’s mayor realized her mistake and has started funding the police again after the fallout of the BLM riots.

This news comes only months after Wu pulled outreach workers away from the area after safety concerns grew.

The local news channel Boston 25 News shares more on the story:

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said the city’s community partners are pulling outreach workers from Mass & Cass, an area of the city also knowns as methadone mile, amid growing concerns for public safety.

Wu said the conditions around the intersection of Mass. Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard have gotten so dangerous with the increase of drug trafficking, human trafficking, and violence that some outreach organizations are pulling their teams off the streets.

“Even the outreach workers who have been there day after day are not feeling comfortable.. not feeling like they can physically safely be there anymore,” said Wu.

Mayor Wu has stood by the city’s public health-centered approach of meeting people where they are, but on Wednesday she said the city needs to find a better way to separate those who need treatment from those who are causing problems.

Democrats are always too relaxed when it comes to crime.

Why is it that they continue letting criminals play the victim?
