According to multiple reports, New York City has started offering migrants free one-way flights to the destination of their choice to leave town.
“Mayor Eric Adams is ramping up efforts to fly migrants to the destination of their choice, figuring it’s cheaper than sheltering them for months on end,” POLITICO reports.
“And he’s simultaneously warning that those opting to stay in New York may be in for a winter of sleeping outside with shelters full,” the outlet added.

New York City is now directing migrants to a “reticketing center” to book a free one-way flight to anywhere in the world.
POLITICO reports some migrants have left the Big Apple to destinations as far as Colombia and Morocco.
Some migrants reportedly have booked flights to other American states, such as Michigan.

“When you are out of room, that means you’re out of room,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams told reporters.
“Every year, my relatives show up for Thanksgiving, and they want to all sleep at my house. There’s no more room. That’s where we are right now,” he added.
POLITICO reports:
In recent days, the mayor of the nation’s largest city has been steering people who were vacated from city shelters to a Manhattan office devoted solely to booking plane tickets, creating more uncertainty for the new arrivals.
Dispersing them across the nation and world harkens back to when the Democratic mayor ripped Republican governors in Texas and Florida for sending migrants from the southern border to liberal enclaves. But City Hall officials defend their effort as different because the migrants aren’t being coerced to leave.
Still, critics say Adams’ actions sends a message lacking in compassion.
“What we’ve witnessed from this administration — even if they’re not directly saying ‘you’ve got to get out of here’ — is that they’ve consistently created hysteria and chaos and confusion and have not used a tone of inclusivity and welcome,” City Council member Shahana Hanif said in an interview.
“With no sign of a decompression strategy in the near future, we have established a reticketing center for migrants,” a spokesperson for Mayor Adams said, according to the New York Post.
New York City reportedly has received an influx of 130,000 migrants since last year, with roughly 65,000 migrants currently in shelters.
City officials recently enacted a policy to limit migrant shelter stays to 30 days instead of the previous 60-day limit.
New York City is spending nearly $400 taxpayer dollars per day to place one migrant in its shelter system.
Many one-way flights, including international ones, are cheaper.

Per the New York Post:
It wasn’t immediately clear where the asylum seekers — or how many of them — have requested to go.
The city has been dishing out free airfares to migrants who want them for several months now, but the establishment of the reticketing center is part of its aggressive new strategy to help cope with the relentless influx of asylum seekers pouring into Gotham.
Separately, the mayor has imposed a 30-day limit — down from the prior 60-day limit — for how long a single adult migrant can remain in a city-run shelter in a bid to free up space.
ADVERTISEMENTAfter reaching their deadlines, the migrants have to reapply in order to get back into the system.
Less than 20% of migrants who were given a vacate notice subsequently reapplied to remain in the shelter system as of Sunday, the latest City Hall data shows.
The push comes after Hizzoner warned this week that migrants would soon be sleeping on the streets because the Big Apple had reached “full capacity.”
“We are out of room, and it’s not if people will be sleeping on the streets, it’s when. We are at full capacity,” the mayor said.
