On The Retreat? Jack Smith Withdraws Subpoena In Trump Investigation

Special counsel Jack Smith has retracted a subpoena on the political action committee (PAC) Save America.

Save America is a PAC created by President Trump to be the primary source of fundraising following his alleged defeat in the 2020 elections.

Jack Smith has been investigating President Trump’s involvement in the Jan. 6 protests and alleged mishandling of classified documents.

It is unclear why Jack Smith has withdrawn his subpoena into the PAC.

This might indicate that Jack Smith is trying to narrow his search for criminal wrongdoing.

Perhaps he might be losing confidence that there is any criminal wrongdoing!

The Washington Post discusses more on the story:

Special counsel Jack Smith has withdrawn a subpoena seeking records about fundraising by the political action committee Save America — a group that is controlled by former president Donald Trump and whose activities related to efforts to block the results of the 2020 presidential election have come under investigation, people familiar with the matter said.

The withdrawal of the subpoenaearlier this month indicates Smith is scaling back at least part of his inquiry into the political fundraising work that fed and benefited from unfounded claims that the election was stolen, said the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing criminal investigation.

Save America was still working to gather all of the records sought in the subpoena when it was notified by Smith’s office that the demand for information had been withdrawn, two of the people familiar with the matter said. The federal indictment of Trump filed in August, which charged him with four counts related to alleged obstruction of the 2020 election, does not refer specifically to Save America.

A spokesman for the special counsel declined to comment on the withdrawal of the Save America subpoena. Smith’s office issued a flurry of similar subpoenas to other groups and individuals earlier this year, probing Trump campaign officials, Republican operatives and others about fundraising related to efforts to overturn the presidential election in the months before and after the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Jack Smith has failed to present any evidence thus far, and it is unlikely he ever will.

This withdrawal is just the beginning steps of the investigation falling apart.

Jack Smith’s withdrawal comes just as the Obama-appointed judge Chutkan issued a gag order on President Trump.

President Trump has vowed that he is willing to go to jail to speak freely.

CNN has more on that story:

Trump’s public statements pose “grave threats to the integrity of these proceedings,” especially those that could be construed as harassment and intimidation, Chutkan said in the order released Tuesday.

The written order expands upon what Chutkan articulated during Monday’s hearing about restricting what Trump can say while awaiting trial.

The order specifies that it applies to all parties in the case and their counsel and also extends to others who may be directed to make public statements about the case on behalf of the parties, such as spokespeople for Trump or the Justice Department.

Democrats would love to silence President Trump ahead of the 2024 election.

President Trump has already had to divide much of his time to deal with all the indictments Democrats are throwing at him.

It is no coincidence that all this comes out as the 2024 election season picks up.

There won’t be any wrongdoing found when it comes to President Trump.

This is why Jack Smith is scaling back his investigation.
