Arkansas Strikes A Blow For National Security: Forces China To Sell Farmland

Arkansas has ordered that a Chinese-owned company divest itself from the agricultural land that it owns.

This is a massive blow against the trend of CCP-backed companies investing in American infrastructure.

The company has two years to divest itself completely.

The Associated Press has more on the story:

Arkansas on Tuesday ordered the subsidiary of a Chinese-owned company to divest itself of 160 acres (774,400 square yards) of agricultural land, the first such action under a wave of new laws across the country restricting foreign ownership of farmland.

Attorney General Tim Griffin said Northrup King Seed Co. has two years to divest the property in Craighead County under legislation passed by the majority-Republican Legislature and signed by GOP Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders earlier this year.

Northrup is a subsidiary of Syngenta Seeds, which is owned by China National Chemical Company, or ChemChina, a Chinese state-owned company.

“We will make sure that every company operating in Arkansas is a friend to Arkansas and good to hard-working Arkansans,” Sanders at a news conference with Griffin to announce the move.

Syngenta said it was disappointed in the state’s decision about its land, which the company has owned since 1988. The company said no one from China has ever directed its executives to buy, lease or otherwise engage in land acquisition.

Even though Americans were likely the ones working the job.

That does not mean that the CCP wasn’t pulling the strings.

And who knows what their intention is when investing in American infrastructure?

Many are happy to see American farmland returned to actual Americans.

Griffin said he’s taking action under a new law passed during this year’s regular legislative session that bans prohibited foreign entities from owning Arkansas agricultural lands. Act 636 prohibits such entities from acquiring or holding public or private land in Arkansas either directly or through affiliated parties.

The law defines a “prohibited foreign party” as individuals or entities with a connection to a country subject to federal International Traffic in Arms Regulations. China is subject to the regulations, which restrict and control the export of defense and military related technologies.

Arkansas is the first state in the nation to take enforcement action under a foreign ownership law, according to Micah Brown, staff attorney for the National Agricultural Law Center.  “There’s been a lot of attention on states enacting these laws, but there wasn’t much enforcement action, if any at all,” he said in a statement.

Arkansas is doing the right thing, taking a stand against CCP-owned companies.

Americans should own American land.

China is not our ally.

We must ensure America’s future safety, kicking out the CCP’s influence over us.
