(WATCH) Mark Zuckerberg Introduces AI-Powered META Ray-Ban Glasses

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced the “next-generation Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.”

Ready to step into the Metaverse everywhere you go?

No thank you!

“These are the first smart glasses that are built in shipping with Meta AI in them,” Zuckerberg said.

“Starting in the U.S., you’re going to get this state-of-the-art AI that you can interact with hands-free wherever you go.”

“The glasses are going to be able to understand what you’re looking at when you ask them questions,” he continued.

“We built in one more feature to these smart glasses. You are going to be able to live stream to your friends and followers from your glasses,” he added.

“You can now livestream from the glasses to Facebook or Instagram, and use ‘Hey Meta’ to engage with Meta AI, our advanced conversational assistant, just by using your voice,” Meta wrote on its website.

Anyone who wants these smart glasses will have to pay $299 USD.

“In partnership with EssilorLuxottica, we’re launching a new generation of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, available for pre-order now,” Meta wrote.

“The new glasses feature improved audio and cameras, over 150 different custom frame and lens combinations, and they’re lighter and more comfortable.”

From Meta:

Today at Meta Connect, in partnership with EssilorLuxottica, we announced our next-generation Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses collection. We redesigned these from the ground up, improving all the core features of the first generation while adding new capabilities that have never been seen on a pair of smart glasses before. They start at $299 USD. Pre-orders are open now on meta.com and ray-ban.com, and the smart glasses will be available for purchase online and in retail stores starting October 17.*

Since we launched our first-generation smart glasses built in partnership with EssilorLuxottica, millions of moments have been captured and shared. From music festivals and birthday parties to first steps, graduations, and beyond, Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses free you from the constraints of a hand-held camera. Instead of keeping the world at arm’s length (or worse, missing out on the action completely as you struggle with your smartphone’s lock screen), Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses let you snap a photo or video clip from your unique point of view — allowing you to not only relive the moment, but really live in the moment, too.

We redesigned our next-generation glasses from the ground up, listening to feedback from the community and taking the time to understand what people love about the product — like the effortlessly cool form factor, hands-free convenience, and open-ear audio — as well as the areas where we could improve, like overall media quality and comfort. We’ve improved all those core features of the first generation and added a couple completely new features that have never been seen on a pair of smart glasses before.

The New York Post reports:

However, some skeptics took to social media to say the shades pose privacy risks.

“You can now film everyone without them knowing it!” one wrote, before adding: “It’s a bit obvious when you’re walking into public toilets with your phone in the air compared to wearing glasses at the urinals.”

“Closing all the gaps of whatever privacy we have left,” a second moaned.

The next level is that the AI integration will be able to identify the people in the livestream who didn’t sign up for that,” another worried. “No thanks!”

Many Meta fans, however, hailed the Smart Glasses, which hit stores Oct. 17 and retail from $299.

“Imagine getting this kinda tech in a pair of glasses 10 years ago … not to mention for only $299,” one cooed.

“This is a game changer for sure,” another enthusiast exclaimed.
