Earlier today, WLTR reported the passing of Senator Dianne Feinstein.
The death of the California Senator followed numerous incidents of health problems and hospitalizations that ultimately led to a hiatus from the Senate.
Upon returning, Feinstein told the media that she intended to finish her term in the Senate.
It now falls to California Governor Gavin Newsom to come up with a replacement for the late Senator.
Sources are claiming that the top three candidates to replace Feinstein are Adam Schiff, Katie Porter, and Barbara Lee.
After the tragic passing of Senator Feinstein, the question will be, who should Governor Newsom replace her Senate seat with?
The three top candidates are as follows:
– Adam Schiff – Rep for California's 30th district
– Katie Porter – Rep for California's 47th district

Some are pointing to earlier remarks from the California Governor, vowing that he would select a black woman to replace Feinstein.

The Associated Press provided this excerpt from a recent NAACP letter to Newsom:
“Now the time has come for you to keep your promise.”
“When you openly promised to appoint an African American woman to Sen.
Feinstein’s seat if given the opportunity, the entire African American community in California and around the nation celebrated.”
Host Ann Vandersteel had an interesting theory: “With Dianne Feinstein found dead today look out for Kamala Harris, being appointed as the replacement, Senator and Gavin Newson as the replacement vice president.”

Democrat Jon Cooper noted: “With the tragic passing of Senator Feinstein, the Democrats just lost their “majority” in the Senate, if we take Sinema and Manchin into account.”

Fox News explained that Newsom is looking for a temporary replacement for Feinstein—not a permanent replacement:
“Yes. Interim appointment. I don’t want to get involved in the primary,” Newsom said earlier this month in an NBC News interview.
ADVERTISEMENT“It would be completely unfair to the Democrats that have worked their tail off. That primary is just a matter of months away. I don’t want to tip the balance of that.”
