Trump White House Lawyer Goes On The Offensive, Sues Prosecutor

Former White House lawyer Stefan Passantino is suing Andrew Weissmann, who served as lead prosecutor for former Special Counsel Robert Mueller in 2017 and who now works for (who else)…MSNBC.

Weissmann worked as top deputy for Special Counsel Muller during his probe into the 2016 election.

The newly-filed defamation lawsuit claims that Weissmann defamed Passantino in a Tweet claiming that Passatino coached a witness to lie during the January 6th committee probe.

Stefan Passantino represented Cassidy Hutchinson who you may remember for providing the widely discredited testimony that President Trump lashed out at the Secret Service after a speech on Jan. 6.

Here is the allegedly defamatory Tweet in question:

Here’s more from Bloomberg Law:

Trump White House lawyer Stefan Passantino has sued former special counsel prosecutor Andrew Weissmann, claiming Weissmann lied about whether Passantino improperly coached a witness in the Jan. 6 committee probe.

Passantino said in a defamation suit filed Friday in US District Court in Washington that Weissmann publicly impugned his reputation when he claimed that Passantino coached his client, former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson, to lie in congressional testimony.

“This is an insidious lie,” Passantino said in the complaint. “Mr. Passantino never coached Ms. Hutchinson to lie, nor did he attempt to shape her testimony in any way.”

In April, Passantino sued the House Jan. 6 committee on similar grounds. Both complaints revolve around Passantino’s claims that committee members, and now Weissmann, spread falsehoods by stating that he coached star witness Hutchinson to lie to the panel.

Let’s turn it over to the Gateway Pundit for more on the story:

Hutchinson alleged that at this point Trump reached up to the driver, grabbed the steering wheel, and tried to commandeer the presidential limo.

Of course, this was a lie.

Cassidy Hutchinson testified that her lawyer, Passantino, told her prior to her testimony before the January 6 Committee: “The less you remember, the better.”

However, Hutchinson told the January 6 Committee during testimony that Stefan Passantino never told her to lie.

“I just want to make sure that I make it clear that he didn’t say, ‘I want you to lie and say that you don’t recall on these things when I know you recall,’” Hutchinson said. “He didn’t tell me to lie. He told me not to lie.”

On September 15, Weissmann claimed in a tweet that Hutchinson’s lawyer coached her to lie (he didn’t mention Passantino’s name).

The Daily Caller News Foundation spoke with Passantino and reported the following:

“As with all my clients during my 30 years of practice, I represented Ms. Hutchinson honorably, ethically, and fully consistent with her sole interests as she communicated them to me (and others) while I represented her,” Passantino told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “As Ms. Hutchinson herself testified, I never counseled her to lie. I have never counseled a client to mislead anyone.”

The former Trump lawyer represented Hutchinson, a former White House aide, during the Jan. 6 Committee’s investigation, the complaint says. Hutchinson made several statements during the hearing that were later brought into question.

“Anyone who takes the time to read the transcripts in which I represent Ms. Hutchinson or to learn anything about me will know this one-sided caricature of me is false,” Passantino told the DCNF. “I have already initiated legal action arising from the January 6 Committee’s unlawful and unethical conduct. This country has defamation laws for a reason, and I intend to avail myself of them – starting today.”

“Defendant attacked Mr. Passantino as a means of distracting from and rehabilitating the contradictory and uncredible aspects of Ms. Hutchinson’s testimony, as they undermine the Select Committee and its partisan findings and purpose,” the complaint alleges. “Defendant’s smear has deeply damaged Mr. Passantino’s 30-year reputation and had caused him to lose significant business and income. Mr. Passantino seeks to hold Defendant accountable for this vicious lie and the damages it has wrought.”

We need more lawsuits against the corrupt DOJ.

If no one stands up against them, it will only worsen.

Let us hope that this lawsuit receives fair treatment and Weissmann gets what he deserves.
