The level of corruption in our political system never seems to resolve itself and has reached a critical level.
Not a day passes by when some political figure comes under investigation for corruption and seemingly, almost always, gets away.
To add to that growing list of lawmakers under investigation, Senator Robert Menendez has come under the watchful eye of federal prosecutors.
“Federal prosecutors are probing whether scandal-plagued Senator Robert Menendez accepted gold bars from a corrupt businessman in exchange for help in a federal fraud investigation,” Washington Free Beacon reported.

Menendez is accused of receiving roughly $400,000 in gold bars to help a bank executive skirt the full extent of the law—though these allegations have not yet been confirmed.
At the time of this writing, Menendez has not been formally charged with a crime.
The X community pointed to other allegations and a long history of Senator Robert Menendez having recorded brushes with the law.

NBC 4 New York had more on the allegations:
Part of the investigation centers on the senator’s ties to Fred Daibes, a New Jersey developer and one-time bank chairman.
Officials with the FBI and IRS Criminal Investigation want to know if Daibes or his associates gave gold bars to the senator’s wife, Nadine Arslanian — gold bars worth as much as $400,000.
At the time of the gift handoff, Daibes was facing federal bank fraud charges that could have landed him up to a decade in federal prison.

New York Magazine writes:
Menendez, who is facing a small-town mayor in the Democratic primary for 2024, also allegedly took cash from the owner of a powerful halal importer in Edgewater, New Jersey, whom his wife knew before she began dating the senator.
ADVERTISEMENTFederal prosecutors and the FBI are reportedly investigating if Menendez received a Mercedes-Benz and a luxury Washington, D.C., apartment in exchange for political favors.
