Would you let Elon Musk stick a chip in your brain?
The eccentric billionaire recently announced that his Neuralink project, a brain-computer interface implanted in the body, is set to begin human trials.
Neuralink is currently looking for applicants for its human phase trials.
Elon Musk announced on Wednesday: “The first human patient will soon receive a Neuralink device. This ultimately has the potential to restore full-body movement.
In the long term, Neuralink hopes to play a role in AI risk civilizational risk reduction by improving human-to-AI (and human-to-human) bandwidth by several orders of magnitude. Imagine if Stephen Hawking had had this.”

BBC News had more on the story:
A robot will help implant a BCI that will let them control a computer cursor, or type, using thoughts alone.
But rival companies have already implanted BCI devices in humans.
Neuralink won US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for its first human clinical trial, in May, a critical milestone after earlier struggles to gain approval.
Mario Nawfal shared this video and explained: “Last month, a paralyzed patient, Ann, converted her brain signals into speech & expressions!”

In response to claims that Macaque monkeys were harmed as a part of ongoing Neuralink testing, Musk flatly denied the allegations, as per this WIRED article.

The Guardian provided the specific criteria for the trials:
Neuralink says it is looking for patients with quadriplegia due to vertical spinal cord injury or ALS.
ADVERTISEMENTParticipants will have a BCI surgically implanted using a proprietary robot in a region of the brain that controls movement, with the goal of enabling them to control a computer cursor or a keyboard using just their thoughts.
